Frustration!

Recommended Posts

I'm one month post op and feeling frustrated! I'm eating the right way, working out 3-4 times a week and the weight is not coming off! I lost 17 lbs with pre op, but since the the band I've only lost 4 lbs and that was week one post op. I'm just feeling so frustrated!

I totally understand. But with the band remember that the weight loss is slower. 1-2 lbs a week. Frustrating. But healthy. Hang in there. Continue what you are doing and it will slowly come off. Good luck

You have to remember, the weight didn't come on overnight and it won't come off overnight either. The average weight loss with the band is about 1-2 pounds a week.

Plus, the first 4-6 weeks after surgery are for healing not losing. It's very common for people to not lose during this time or even gain a little.

Just keep exercising, eating right, and staying in your daily calorie allowance and the weight will most certainly come off. It just takes time.

I'm sure the body has to adjust to this big new change and you'll be down another twenty before you know it. Keep up the good working out and a pound a week is such a healthy way to lose -- it is all happening. Are you all good for follow-up, fills, etc.? So great that you can exercise.

Everybody and every band is different. I'm going to give you advice that I don't follow myself - weigh yourself only once a week...if that doesn't work, go to once per month. Most of all, do not be discouraged! It will happen, when your body wants it to.

I understand your frustration! I was banded 7/17/13 and have lost a total of 13 pounds. I have already had one fill and can tell a little difference when eating ( eating smaller portions) I can say one thing that I have notice improve is my energy level!! Also when working out I can complete workout routines instead of quitting and passing out :) Good Luck!!

I am in the same boat. My surgeon said the initial weight loss was from the liquid diet and it's not until the 3rd or 4th fill that the band will become the cause of your weight loss. He also said you will know the exact fill that works for you. I guess it's obvious. I'm still waiting for the feeling and I'm going for my 4th fill Monday. Hang in there!!!

I posted this reply in another topic...

One of the most important words in this journey for me was and still is Patience. It's not always going to be that you eat correctly, correct amounts, get some exercise, then jump on the scale and see 10 lbs per week/month disappear. It just didn't work that way for me. Its been 4 years this month for me.....and I STILL get frustrated when I don't see that scale move as fast as I want it to. But...it's going the right direction.

I was thinking just yesterday, as I was going to a run event....where would I be if I hadn't stuck with it....if I'd given up and said it won't work? Probably 350 lbs....or more! And it literally brought a tear to my eye, almost four years after surgery. I've never felt healthier in my life!

SO many people have been where you are right now...and have become VERY successful. You'll read on here from people who have lost tremendous amounts of weight....but most of those have probably had a time when we thought the same things you are saying right now. But one thing is for sure....if you have the desire and determination...you will be successful too! Just never, ever give up!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
