I thought once banded, carbonated drinks were out of the question but I just read a post where someone's doctor said every now and then it was okay? You mean I CAN have an icy cold coca cola every now and then? Please hurry and answer, I'd love to have one tonight!

I was just banded the 26th of July. I was told NO to carbonated drinks. :( I feel your pain!

Carbonated drinks are a no-no according to almost all our docs and I definitely think all should follow that advice until they are comfortable with how their band works. I drink carbonated drinks every now and then, but definitely not near as much as I used to. I've had the band for 5 years.

Listen to your Dr., AND your band....

It can be hazardous if you're careless and not sure what you're doing....

I have been banded coming up on three years....for the first two I did not go near it....and my Dr. tells all is patients no...

I started to drink Beer now and then, sometimes 2-3 in a afternoon at a picnic or all game......I told my Dr....he asked me a few questions about "Listening" to my band primarily, then said Ok, but not to advertise it when I'm at support groups and orientations.......

If I had to give my 2 cents, or if I was asked at a support meeting, I would say it is more important to focus on getting your band working, and getting yourself i tune with the band for a successful outcome....

Also, don't listen to everyone here on this forum...most people should know that.

ask your lap band doctor

and let them advise you yes or no to this question

as you can see, some say yes and some say no

Mine said ONCE in a while - not daily like I was before the band. If you tell me I can't have something ever again it's not going to work, everything in moderation.

If you have enough will power for a few sips, you can try and see if it upsets you. I allow myself some sips here and there but have not drank a whole beverage since I have been banded. Honestly it gives me hard core burps and upsets my stomach now that I'm not used to it anymore.

For sure follow your surgeon's rules though. Someone on this forum posted that drinking pop let them to a slipped band and who knows if that was the culprit or not but I was super freaked out by that.

Good luck!

What does YOUR doctor say? Mine said no for the first 6 months or something (hard to remember 5 years later), he also said that regular soda is empty calories (surgeons are against those), and that diet sodas INCREASE appetite (who wants that?). When I was allowed to consume them, I found that they just gave me the hiccups.

Most recently when I sipped on one, I found the taste was not so much to my liking.

My doc said none for at least 9 months post op. I tried something carbonated once and it made me uncomfortable and gassy. I haven't wanted anything carbonated since. It didn't hurt, but it didn't feel "right".

I drink a lot of tea: hot, iced, herbal, black . . . such a variety.

I too was told no carbonated drinks, but no worries here I quit drinking them 8 years ago. I only had to see what happens to nails if you let it sit in carbonation for a day or so, they totally disappear! So I'm not really giving anything up!

I will have a soda one now and then. Normally I will open up and let it sit for awhile have a few sips and the let it sit overnight and may or may not finish the drink.

I really do not miss my almost 32 to 64 ounces of diet sodas prior to the band.

My dr said I shouldn't ( not couldn't ) drink them.. And he told me to cut it out for my kids. He's convinced that carbonation starts "stretching" your stomach from an early age...could be...

My doc told me that I could as long as it was flat. But don't do them and the couple of times I did, it was a nice cold sprite but I only drank a little and gave the rest to my daughter.

Carbonation = Agony

If you're dying for an iced cold coke, open one and leave it in the fridge for a few hours, stir the bubbles out and THEN drink it flat...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
