On waiting list for band removal

Recommended Posts

So had my band surgery in 2007. Thought it would be great. Barely had any Fluid in my band before I ended up getting ulcers at the base of my esophagus. Completely frustrated by the lack of concern from the physician. Anyways long store short I have had severe increase in acid reflux, I now have a esophageal hernia, anemia and pain all the time and found out the cause is because the band is to high. My food intake is very limited and it is completely frustrating that I have waited so long to get it taken care off. I wish I would have been one of the success stories. But at least I am on the waiting list for removal!!

It's really nice being a part of this community and to know I am not the only one that's had issues.

I'm sorry you have had troubles. Being on this sites has made me second guess my upcoming surgery on 8/15. Did your insurance cover complications related to the band? Are they going to cover having it removed? I hope all goes smoothly for you.

So sorry you're having these problems. Sounds like the physician is/was grossly incompetent. Any chance you'll share the surgeon's name?

Your situation is very like mine. Lack of concern from a physician is always a bad sign. I wish I had "fired" mine earlier than I did.

I'm very sorry you're experiencing complications. I did, too. I hope you'll feel much better after band removal. I know I did. It was like waking up from a horrible nightmare.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks everyone!! I am lucky that my health insurance does cover the removal. I was a me to lose 40 but gained 10 back and not just maintaining. I am just more frustrated than anything as I know most people are successful with their surgeries. I thought getting the sleeve but since I have not felt good and have had pain since I got the band I think I am just going to get it removed and keep trying the old fashioned way of healthy eating and exercise. If anything I have learned proper portion sizes and am more aware of what's going in and out so hopefully fingers crossed everything will be great!! :D

I'm on the waiting list for removal too. I'm having spasms too often, and the doc said it kinda like my body is not accepting the band anymore. I will spells when I can't eat anything solid and can barely drink anything. It takes me about 3 hours to drink a Protein shake! I'm feeling OK at the moment....I hope I don't have to wait a long time. The band help me loose 60 lbs. (I was banded dec. 2010) I'm scared to death about regaining the weight back...sorry you're having problems too

Sorry to hear that you are not doing well with your band as well. I ha e been reading lots of comments on here and I am not sure if its the type of band that's creating the issues with our bodies or what!?! When you say spasms what do you means? I get really bad hiccups after eating, is that similar? I am sending you all the positive vibes I can that you do not gain any weight back and that if nothing else you can maintain!! :)

Thanks for the positive vibes!! I want to maintain my weight, I didn't make it to goal, but close! The surgeon called it spasms, it would be like something gets stuck just a little bit and then I wouldn't be able to get anything else down for days and days, even liquids, barely.

I had an erosion with gi bleed at 5 years postoperative. All I wanted is removal and was told that was not an option due to the scares under the band. I had a revision to gastric bypass, which scared me. I woke up a new person and have not vomited or had pain in 4 weeks

Was having a second WLS covered by insurance or were you self-pay? I'm not needing another surgery but I don't think my insurance would cover a second WLS.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
