Good luck to all of you who are just about to have surgery ;) I wish you lots of luck & speedy recovery. I am 10 days post surgery- mine was 9/13. I am on mushy food today. Um I did ok after surgery - my incisions didn't hurt me all that much - but the gas did hurt. But with pain medicine and walking it was bare able. Still even today I sometimes have that deep muscle achy ness from the surgery, but I stopped taking pain medicine about day three.

So it really is ok and you are going to do fine ;) it is surgery after all. I'm down 15 pounds and I am starting to notice a little. It really is worth it - because I can tell you that without this surgery (tool) I wouldn't have been able to do it. My need for food has changed - I am sometimes a little hungry but when I do eat I'm satisfied. Pre-band I was always hungry which led me to overeat and that was the best thing for me - was to be satisfied.

Good luck to all of you ;)

Sorry it took me so long to reply, but I have been catching up on my sleep and taking this rare opportunity to veg out. My doctor is DR Krish out of Zephyr Hills. day 3 post op and I have no pain other than my stitches. No gas pains (thank god). I haven't lost any weight yet but I am sure that's to come. Have a good day

I''m glad you are doing well. Actually your doctor is affiliated with my Dr. Diciccio thats awesome. Wishing you the best recovery.

By this time next week I'll be banded! I'm trying to get as much done now as possible: paperwork, lesson plans for my sub, bills paid, housework, shopping for post-op diet, etc. One minute I'm thrilled to go into this new place in my life, and in the next I'm so filled with doubt--that I've lost quite a bit of weight in the past 2 months (almost 30 lbs!) all by myself, so then why would I need a lap band? But I know that it will just keep me losing. I am finally making time in my life to take care of me. I'm so proud of myself for finally getting off my butt and making this happen. I'm not going to be a passive sissy any more!

hey y'all! want some good news? my surgery was Sept.4th and I can honestly say it was the easiest surgery I've ever had. The only problem I had was the nausea from the anesthesia, but as soon as it was gone, I was back to myself! seriously, I never needed pain medication, the soreness was comparable to doing too many situps or crunches. the surface muscles were sore but not my guts lol. I never slept in a recliner. I never needed help getting up and down or in and out of bed. it was so much easier than I had worried about. today was my first follow up appt and everything is healing perfectly and im doing just what im supposed to do. I have gotten hungry about every 3 hours but I focus on my Protein and keep mushies available..the rest is a no brainer! im looking forward to my first fill Oct.7th so some of my hunger will go away :)

I have 3 or 4 coworkers that all are being banded in September and those of us that have had the surgery already have had similar stories. easier than what we had anticipated! so, all of u that are.waiting on surgery, truthfully....it will be great...no worries! attitude is everything with healing. stay positive!

Today is my post op appointment (6 days since surgery) and I know the doctor scales aren't ever the same as the ones I have at home so I decided to weigh in my bathroom on mine. 13lbs!!!! Holy crap!!! Motivation right there! I know weight loss will slow down eventually' date=' but for now I have my party hat on![/quote']

That great news!!! Woohooo. Today is my 7 days post op and yesterday on my home scale it said 12lbs down. I so did a happy dance :-)

You guys are really inspiring! I'm getting a little nervous for the 1st time. I have my 4-hr pre-class and checkin stuff tomorrow, meet with the surgeon Thursday, then surgery on Friday. It's starting to become real. Woke up with a headache for the 1st time in a very long time, must be nerves and lack of caffeine...lol I have to keep reminding myself now to keep my eye on the prize.

But seeing everyone else go through it in this group before me makes it somewhat easier! Congrats to all of you!!

I had my cardiology stress test, pre surgical testing, and final surgeon's visit today. Tomorrow is echo cardiogram, then Thursday is primary doc visit. I won't know for 100% til Friday's cardiology clearance. Everything else is ready. I can't believe surgery is Monday!

I have my fingers crossed for you!

I'm with dmh102 - I've got my toes crossed for you too!

My surgery is scheduled for Friday...starting to get a little jittery but not much. I know this is the right decision to get me healthier than I am now.

Getting super nervous as well... I did all my pre-op last Friday, liquids for the last two weeks... reading my lap band book again and going over my diet for the next few months.... Good luck to all! :-) :-)

Well just came from my 4 hr class to prepare me for the next few weeks. Met with the dietitian and Barbie (our Office Coordinator). She is very knowledgeable and a good presenter. I learned a lot and I'm now ready for my surgery on Friday at 8:30am! I have to be there by 730. So by this time Friday I will be banded and hopefully almost ready to go home...

Debbie, what did they have to say in the class? Anything that made you say Aha! or Hmmm....? What are they recommending for when you get home? I wanted Friday as my band day, but Monday is what I could get. Wishing you well. I believe there are a handful more going on Friday, too.

I had a successful echo cardiogram today, but then the pre surgical testing called and said I have a urinary tract infection (thank goodness it doesn't hurt!!) so I am on Cipro till surgery day, Monday. That should blast it!

I was SO hungry today that instead of my usual dinner salad + 6oz lean meat that I am allotted, I went to KFC! WHAT?!?!? you say? But lemme explain: I had no idea that they have grilled chicken, so I got a chicken breast and some green Beans instead of my salad. I had to take off all the skin and some fatty looking stuff, but once I got to the solid chicken, it was pretty good. Plain, but ah well, it was a heck of a lot better than my usual at home. 4 more days to go of this stinkin' pre-op diet. I can't wait to have chicken broth, yogurt, and hopefully scrambled eggs again.

Edited to add: I was at KFC to get my daughter dinner. I just happened upon that they had grilled chix.

Hey, I'll type more tomorrow- I'm pooped,, and my vision's slightly blurry from the muscle relaxant- but I had my surgery today!

I went under around 1pm, left the hospital around 7, feeling great). The first thing I remember saying to the surgeon was "I can't believe I actually did this. I was sure I was going to end up backing out at some point."

I remember him saying that that's the most common thing he hears after patients are out of ga :)

Anyway, feeling great about the decision, though there were a few points in the process that I'll go into more in a surgery day write up. Good luck to everyone out there- and that your surgery recovery is at least as easy as mine has been so far :) It really is so much better once it's done.

My class was great! very informative but not much we don't already know. hold a pillow to your stomach if you need to laugh, cough or sneeze - it will help. Walk, Walk, Walk!!

She walked us through every step of what will happen tomorrow from arrival thru discharge. There are 7 people having surgery tomorrow total. My surgery is scheduled for 830am tomorrow, I have no pre-op diet so today's clear liquid diet (broth, sugar-free jellow, flavored waters, light, deluded fruit juices, Decaf coffee\tea, and sugar-free popcycles) blows. I will be on these Clear Liquids through Sunday. Monday starts Stage 2 liquid Proteins, cream of wheat, applesauce, sugar-free pudding, greek yogurt (baby food consistency). for 2 weeks. Then on to stage 3 (more on that later...)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
