How many of you have lost more than 45% of your excess weight?

Recommended Posts

This is the number i was told by my docs and have read nearly everywhere online, is the average total weight loss for Lap Band patients. 45% of their excess weight. so if you are 100lbs over your "normal" weight range according to the BMI charts, then you will most likely lose around 45lbs.

For me, I started out 230lbs over what the BMI charts say i should be at, and am down 96lbs, which is 41% of the 230extra lbs i had on me.

I know this is why im slowing down on my weight loss, i also knew that i may not lose a single pound over the 103 (which would be 45%) and I was ok with that..but as im getting closer it just isnt enough for me lol and im determined to not be the "average" bandster and blow pass that percentage.

Im just curious as to how many of you out there, have been able to do this?..I have seen tons of people on here losing over 100lbs, and so im thinking there must be more out there that have done it than even the experts realize and that the "average" percent of weight loss, may be higher than the 45.

I'm nearing my 3 year anniversary and I've lost almost 70% of my excess weight.

The 45% is just a statistical average. It doesn't mean anything....

Just keep doing what you are doing and forget about the stats.

I was a 100lbs overweight and I have lost 50 lbs 6 months out from surg so I guess I beat the statistic :)

My goal is a 27 BMI so I must reach the full 100 gone!! I don't want to be obese anymore!!!!

At my lowest I'd lost 130% of my excess weight, but worked to gain some back (to a BMI of 23) and maintained for 3 years. I also experienced a persistent 15 month leak recently and gained a little more on top of that. But even so I'm still sitting on 100% of my excess weight lost.

I lost 50% in 6 months. Hope to lose 70-100% by the time I reach 3 years. The weight loss slowed after 6 months but I am still slowly loosing.

I'm six months out and am at that 45% average but I fully expect to lose more as I haven't stalled out yet and I could always add more days of exercise too. As far as the average goes, remember it includes everyone that gets the band. Not just the success stories.

To do the math:

Original weight - goal weight = amount to lose

Current amount lost / amount to lose = % lost to date

I've lost 100% of my excess weight. I think it's important to talk to people who are years out who are more likely to have reached goals than those <1 year. I think it's also important to see everyone as individuals. 45% is a statistical average that includes those who have had complications, those who are noncompliant (ranging from poor food choices so they are maintaining but not losing to those who have just abandoned their band/rules and are gaining all their loss back). 45% is not a barrier and is not supposed to represent anything more than these averages. Losing readily at first and than losing slower as time goes on is the norm. Don't over think it and DONT make excuses/barriers that really don't exist. You are an individual, your success is your own.

61 per cent in 5 months. Actually, 16 was pre op and the rest post op, but looking forward to another 39 percent for a total of 100 per cent of my excess weight.

Oh i realize the 45 is just average..but i wasnt sure just how many passed that mark lol..like I had said, i pretty much figured that the "average" wasnt really what the average was if they redid a study, they would see that its far higher. Im gonna keep going, never plan to give up...im at a stall but my inches are melting off, so much im having trouble keeping clothes in my closet that fit right lol.

Body weight and BMI's are only good to a certain point....and not very accurate to begin with....according to the BMI charts, I am still overweight.....according to a Body Fat Analysis...which I can get done at the health club for $10,...I have a Body Fat % of around 14%....that puts me on the borderline of Fitness - Athletic.... (Bioelectrical impedance analysis)

My surgeon says that is optimum for me at my age...and I should not loose any more weight.....

But the BMI still says I am overweight and unhealthy....

And I can look at professional athletes (football-baseball players) height and weight, and they are ALL overweight, some even obese....according to their BMI....

So if you are struggling with the last 10-15 lbs, you need to find out exactly what out body composition actually is...the body need some essential fat, around 4-5% for males, to survive...I believe more for women...

So it is not excess weight we need to loose, in %, it is the excess FAT we need to loose....and we burn fat by calorie intake, and burning fat for energy though exercise....that simple.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
