Is this what being stuck feels like

Recommended Posts

I cannot believe this! Today is my first full day on solid liquids. I has surgery June 13. I had maybe 1/4 cup on instant mashed potatoes with some unflavored Protein in it and now I feel like I have a horrendous burp with a bit of nausea. I really tried to eat small bites an slow and did fine with them last night. Do ya'll think I'm stuck and if so how long til it passes.

Sounds like you over filled yourself. You could still be swollen.

I don't know how applicable this may be to you, but I get up and walk a lot if I feel like that. I find that walking around my house or just standing helps me.

BTW, a true stuck hurts like you're having a heart attack, you start having to spit out a thick saliva aka slime.

I find that walking around during a stuck does help.

Whatever you do, do not try to wash down a stuck with Water.Pain will intensify.

Maddysgram is soooo right... Your first instinct is to wash it down and it only makes it worse... For me the pain of being stuck is so bad I feel like I'm going to pass out and walking during that is not an option for me

You may just need to get used to the feeling of restriction. You feel the need to burp but can't.... That's just the food sitting in the band before passing into the stomach. Just means the band is doing what it's supposed to. Just means you need to stop eating. Dont force it. Everyone is different so get to know your signs of being satisfied. :-)

Had my first stuck episode today and it was just like Maddysgram described.Worst pain imagainable in the center of my chest. I took a sip to try to wash it down and what a mistake, next thing I knew I was foaming. Had some esophageal spasms that lasted about 1 1/2 hours after. Lesson learned! Don't want to do that again.

Lord all this talk of what being stuck feels like and what happens is scaring the crap outta me!!

I have been banded since June 6th, and I have had the sensation you are talking about utkscvol1, it scared the crap out of me then, but I got up and walked around and let out the biggest burp, and I felt much better.

Hope you feel better!

That's what my episode felt like except that if I did burp something would have come up with it. It was like the food was stuck in between my breast and would not go down, but it eventually did. I just got my first fill so I'm new to this. Was that like a PB or was I full or something else. Can you tell? It has happened like 4 times on soft foods.

I call that sensation..."my reminder" to slow down and eat slowly. I too had my first stuck episode this week....and trust me......you absolutely KNOW when it happens (if your unsure...then your not stuck). I too panicked...drank some water....and that was a BAD idea. Was spitting up foam and yuckiness for 30 mins.

So that feeling finally went away last night and I had a pudding cup. Now on to today, I drank maybe 1/2 cup of my Protein Shake and have had I pudding cup and am having a different type of pain- mainly in the middle of my back- I'm assuming this is still gas related. I'm extremely tired today as well. Second day back at work and haven't slept the best the past 2 nights.

Utk I agree with the others that think your stuck feel is due to swelling. I was banded 5/3 and got the intense 'heart attack' feel with a cup of cottage cheese. I try stretching my arms over my head while standing. It eases the pain but you will still have it for over an hour. The pains in your back could be gas related. Try liquids again for a meal or two. It may ease the internal irritation and then go back to mushies. I'm definitely not an expert but went through the same thing very recently. Good Luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
