You should be good. When I was on my pre op diet I went out on to a work even and had a meal and drinks. It was only one day so that was not a problem. From what my dr is that they want your stomach to shrink a little and also have it empty at the time of surgery. I'm 4 years banded and was the best decision made.

Depends on what day of the pre op diet you are on? The entire purpose of the pre op diet is to shrink your fatty liver so that the surgeon can functionally work around in there. Mine told me that if I didn't follow the rules and he got in there and things were too difficult he would sew me back up. Not to scare you or anything but if you can't be disciplined enough to stick with this how can you when you have surgery. I know you want to eat, believe me I know, I have been there, actually 1 year ago last week was my 1 year bandiversary and my pre op diet was horrible, it was hell, excuse the language. Your body goes thru detox of carbs and sugars and you crave and you wanna eat like crazy but if I can do it, oh believe me anyone can do it. Just sip on that chicken broth like its a big ole pot of homemade Soup and its the best thing you've ever had and drink your Protein Shakes to stay satisfied. Also I was allowed sf Jello and sf popsicles and sf puddings. I will admit to you that I did pass out twice guess my sugar dropped and my surgeon allowed me to eat a Protein Bar twice so I don't think you did any harm. Just try and stick with it from here on out. You can do it!

It depends, as the previous poster pointed out, on how fatty your liver is. I didnt need a pre op diet because my BMI wasnt too high and I dont ever drink. If you have fallen off just be extra strict with yourself for a few days to make up for it - the liver is an amazing organ and if you give it the chance it will sort itself out.

probably did not hurt your chances of surgery

but the surgery is to merely ready your insides for surgery by making the liver smaller..if you (cheated) now, you may start to think its okay to cheat again and after surgery (where if you do, you could harm your inside with fresh stitches)....that being said, get right back on the diet as it is vital you do the best you can for yourself.....by cheating, you are only cheating yourself....and didnt we cheat enough on (diets) to make us get to need WLS in the first place....YOU deserve to treat yourself better.....you went through all the pre op apts and it would be a shame for you to do that to yourself....its not easy....its gonna get even tougher.....if you cant hang now, how can you hang when it gets really tough?

you either want this or you dont

if you want it, then follow what your doctor says...

imagine where you could be a year from now......a year ago i could hardly walk and had trouble wiping my butt because i was so large..i made the choice to try one more time......i sure hope you do also.

Some pre-ops are different than others. Mine was shakes for 2 weeks prior. Other people have Lean cuisine an shakes. So, it is not that bad to cheat ONCE!!! You can do it, we all have and most of us are happier. hang in there. Karen

One screw up likely didn't derail you, but if you continue to ignore the doctors orders you will! For safety sake the doctor needs your liver to be smaller, it is for your life.

I didn't have a pre-op diet, I was just told to cut back. He didn't want me gaining. I was 244. However, each doc is different and orders different things. The same doctor will order different things for different paitents since we are all different. So stick with the plan- be good to you.

My pre op diet was very good. It was not like most which consist of 2 Protein Shakes and one meal. in addition to what I just mention I would have sugar free popsicles, Jello and veggies and for Breakfast I could have my choice of two ( egg, toast, waffle, fruit) I did cheat but it wasn't with bad things I cheated by having a little more chicken or fish and veggies with my meal. I still lost 10 lbs and had my surgery. Just don't cheat with sodas, chip and candy <-----the bad stuff

I didn't have to do a pre op diet and I'm doing great at 6 months post op, so I would say you are most probably just fine.....Take it one day at a time, think about why you are having the surgery and hang in there, surgery day will be here before you know it, then it's a whole new ball game. Best Wishes :)

Ok, look, I picked the worst time to go on a pre-op diet. It was 12/14/12 during the height of the holiday season. I had parties to go to and I did cheat a little but most of my choices were smart such as Proteins, fruits and veggies but I did have a couple of those homemade Christmas Cookies which let's face it only come around once a year. Anyway, eventhough I cheated I incorporated it into my 800 calorie a day per-op diet. I lost 10 lbs and it all worked out. You can't beat yourself to death because you had a cheat. Just jump right back on the program and don't look back. Good luck.

Every doctor is different- I failed on mine a couple of times- however I chose wisely. The first 2 days were the worst! I ended up eating a grilled chicken breast and steamed broccoli for a meal. Another day I ended up eating a lean cuisine. Then the day before I went on my clear liquid diet I had a hot dog. Not encouraging you to do so by any means- just don't want you to feel like your alone. I was banded last Thursday.

I cheated but still lost 10lbs. I think if you're still losing weight quickly you'll be fine but I am not your surgeon!

WOW!! Thanks everyone for all the reassuring words. This makes me feel a lot better. Like I said, I have cheated but it was with good choices, like a salad with no meat whatsoever, and fat free low calorie dressing. I am so glad I found this forum, it means the world to be able to go through this with people that have been there and know what you are going through. My surgery is Friday the 21st and am so excited to get this done. Please keep me in you rprayers.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
