Recommended Posts

My start weight was 334, I got down to 304, now I'm 306. I really got mentally messed up and started to eat whatever I wanted, there are no foods I can't tolerant, I was banded in Feb 2013, I've had two fills and absolutely no restrictions. I can't fail at this, please help

My weight fluctuates like that. I'll struggle going up and down about 10 lbs and then all of a sudden ill have a big loss for a few days. And then for the next couple weeks same struggle! I've had 3 fills, 5 cc's in a 10cc band. I don't feel much difference except in the mornings. But I keep measuring my food and getting plenty of exercise and its coming off. Getting another fill next week, though.

Keep doing what you are supposed to do and the weight will come off. Please don't give up. You can do this. Best of luck to you!

You are doing great. 30lbs in 3mths. If you are going to let your emotions mess with you, you need to find a therapist, or someone who can help you through that. We all will face stress in our lives. Its up to us to learn a different way to handle it.Exercise, read a book, find a hobby anything but use food.

We can support you, but its you that has to help yourself.

If I could, I would be there to slap the crap out of your hands before you put it in your mouth, but thats not possible.

Make up your mind. Do you want better health? Just do it!

My thoughts & prayers for you to find away to deal with pressures.

Good luck!

PS. Until you have enough fills, it is a fight.

Fight a good fight!

Congratulations on your loss so far!

Keep in mind the band isn't meant to physically stop you from eating anything. "Restriction" with the band doesn't mean it's going to restrict the food you can eat. It means literally restriction around your stomach from the band tightening.

What the band will do for you once you have adequate Fluid in it is it will control your hunger. You will be able to eat very little food and be satisfied for a much longer period of time. This may not sound like much but trust me, it is. When you're not hungry you're no longer pre-occupied with food and when you're satisfied on little food it makes it very easy to stick to band sized portions and as a result loose weight.

Have a look at this link, I think it'll help: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

Best wishes!

I hope your surgeon had you visit a mental health specialist of some sort before surgery. If you did see someone you might contact them again for some suggestions. I find writing down my thoughts, good and bad, and my food choices and amounts sometimes helps me. There is probably nothing I can't eat, but there are some things I chose not to eat. You are headed in the right direction. I get a lot of help and support from my surgical support groups as well as my 3 times per week Overeaters Anonymous meetings.

I am 10 months post op and STILL get upset if my scale goes back up. It's a fight and struggle I have within myself daily. I am sure I ALWAYS will. Depression is something I have battled my entire life though. However, I went into this battle knowing it wouldn't be easy. I did not get to 304 pounds overnight, and I knew I wouldn't get to my goal weight overnight either.......although I sure wish I could! I had a doctor's visit today and was complaining that I ONLY lost 12 lbs in the last month. Yes, you read that right. How silly is that!? It's because it is a mental battle with myself. Of course 12 lbs in a month is something to Celebrate, and I am thrilled with that. However, there will always be that part of my brain that is telling myself it's not good enough. It's something we have to learn to live with and fight back against.

You are doing amazing. We all have slips. We all stumble. It's not how many times you fall down, it's how many times you get back up.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
