You are still healing as I am. We should not be so worried about lost we need to learn how to work with our band. have you had a fill? Are you walking? What are you eating?

Calories in calories out still apply. Maybe you are drinking items that are to high in calories. Do as much walking as your body will allow and increase it a little every day, hugs to you.

That is 5lb a week, it hardly sounds like you are "stuck". Especially been as the average weight loss is approx 1 - 2lb per week.

3 weeks out of surgery and I'm stuck at 15 lbs lost. Been stuck for a week! What can I do?

Hi Lavada,

I am sure that's frustrating! The general healthy weight loss is 1-3 lbs a week - that's a general rule. The 3 things to exam when "stuck" are the following:

1- food plan (how many calories are you taking in each day - at what time of day and what are they made of, meaning % of protein/carb/fat

2- How much sleep are you getting each night

3- What are you doing for exercise and how many days a weeks and at what time are you doing it.

Accumulate this info and you may see your answer right away (like, I don't really know the exact number of calories I am eating or Exercise? Well I don't really have a plan or measure my exercise etc...)

If when you look at the info on these three items and you don't see a clear answer then feel free to PM me with the info and I will examine it and provide feedback - if you would like me to.

Hope in Your Future is Power in Your Present!

Lee

I feel you what you are saying. I am 14 days post opp and I am only down 9 pounds @ 281. My weigh in day of the surgery was 290. My highest weight before this surgery was 301 so I lost over ten pounds just dieting before surgery. I have not had a lot of energy to walk as much as I would like, and I think my calorie intake was low so I hoped I would loose 2-3 pounds this week. I think I need to walk more and hopefully I'll be at 278 by Friday.

I had band over bypass. My doctor suggested my weight loss would be slower this time around. I think the magic will start to happen once I get a fill.

Drinking no calorie drinks besides muscle milk light. Staying between 500-900 calories a day. I'm walking I was told no activity for a month. 1 more week. We got a bow flex and elliptical.

Congrats on your loss so far! 15lbs in 3 weeks is pretty amazing! I know it's tough when the scale doesn't move, but you're still healing. If you're following all the rules, don't worry! The weight WILL come off!! Maybe put the scale away for a while if it's making you frustrated.

Relax is the most important thing ..... you said it's been three weeks and you haven't lost anything of one of them. Okay, look at that picture....that means that you have lost on average of 7.5 pounds for the two weeks that you did lose. Your body is making all kinds of adjustments and getting used to new things. You are doing fine!!! Keep up with what you are eating and once you can start your activity, you'll see the weight coming off. The slower the loss, the longer it stays off....or so they say. I just hit my four week check up and have only lost 26 pounds total. I haven't stopped walking since they told me to get off the gurney in the recovery room. It will come!! Hang in there, this isn't just for now, it's for life!!!

I understand how you feel. I lost 12 lbs in 5 days, post op lost 2 more then somehow gained that 2 back. Now haven't lost anything for 8 days. It's our nature to want to see the scale go down daily and to worry if we had initial weight loss but it won't continue. As others have said we are still healing and adjusting. Even though we would like to see more 1-2 lbs a week is good and there may be weeks the scale doesn't change.

Just follow your doctor's orders on what/how much to eat and get some exercise! You will do great!

I'm trying hard to not get frustrated. I have been up and down a pound for two weeks now. I am still mainly on mushies and eating around 800 calories a day. I know my body is still healing (I'm on day 20) but I can not figure out how one can eat 800 calories a day and not lose weight for two weeks?? People like to say its simple calories in/ out but it really isn't!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
