Failure......but today......

Recommended Posts

So, it's been 3 years since I got my band. I started at 249.5 and today weighed in at 190.5 (my lowest was 163) but from what I have seen and heard, almost everyone either levels out, or becomes complacent and gains some back. That's me, Mz. Complacently.....who is disgusted with herself. Today is a new day, and one to make better choices. I will get back to it, one better decision at a time, and stop being so hard on myself. I refuse to be a statistic. Thank you for listening :)

Yes, today is a new day. Don't look back- you're not going that way. :)

The title of this thread is 100% wrong,

You are not a failure. The only way you can fail is by quitting and you haven't quit.

You are just a successful journey in process :)

Mis - WELL said!!

With that attitude, how can you go wrong? Dust yourself off and look forward. You got this!!!!!!

Thank you everyone! It's not how many times we fall, it's about how many times we get back up and dust ourselves off. It is a wonderful day, and I refuse to give in. Especially with such wonderful support like y'all. We can do this!!

Kelly, our statistics are near identical - I've got my band nearly two years ago. Got down from 236 to 169 in a year. I was happy as Larry! .....but I became complacent with my achievement and old, bad habits creeped back. Now I'm back up at 185.... I was the poster-patient of my old doc and now look at me!

I still have the knowledge and experience and tools to turn this around and I intend to do just that.

But also, everyone says that we need to stop beating ourselves up and quit the guilt trip. I hear it all - but I have no idea how to do that!!!! (Is there a book about that?)

See, this is what I am talking about ;) this support! Kris150, while reading your post, I got chills. It's amazing to connect to someone in the same boat (and I am aware there are so many of us). My chills were from your very last comment. The guilt trip. The guilt is the worst, and when it is so engrained in your head, and heart....it's hard to let it go. Which brings me to my title. Failure.....I know I am not a failure, but when you are continually picking yourself up after "breaking" your resolve to do something, it gets a little tiring. THAT BEING SAID, I will be a cheerleader for us all...(all of those psych classes in college bring out the counselor in me :) ) continually picking yourself up from "falling" is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength. It shows that we are not failures, but actually fighters. Fight on my friends, because you have shown me what it is that helped me make my decisions in the first place. Strength!

I now would like to know, what kind of eating plan, many of you follow. I always always always go back to low carb. Which I am following now. I almost exist on dairy ALONE...cheese is a big part of my diet, so no paleo for me. But I DO utilize ALOT of their recipes because they tend to be "low carb". My favorite snack/meal is thick cucumber rounds (about 10) patted dry, with cream cheese (2 tbs) a heavy sprinkle of Greek seasoning by Cavenders and sliced kalamata olives (9) on top.....mmmmmmm, I know what's for Breakfast ;) (126 calories, 6 carbs-1 fiber=5 net, 3 protein)

Hi everyone. :) I am in the same boat as you all. I was banded in November 2008. I lost 60 pounds fairly quickly and was feeling awesome. Got married, got comfortable and gained back 50 of it. Today that number is creeping up closer to that starting point and I refuse to let myself get back there. So today I start over. I am going to try to do liquids today to see if I can get myself bacck in the mode again and then try to do mushies for a day or so. Any suggestions on starting over? My biggest issue is drinking to wash it down so I can eat more. That is going to be my number 1 goal to stop as of this very second. :)

WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!!

Amberd0717,

Good luck. We can and will succeed. Maybe you should look into a fill? It's a new day. Make one small change at a time. Stop drinking with your meals. I too do it sometimes :( we can do this!!!

Good morning all you strong, committed people!

I'm a tad chirpy this morning.... and there is good reason for that, which I'll share right now:

Just after replying to Kelly's post on Tuesday I've stumbled upon* a tiny but amazing book about WLS. (*: stumbled upon = was suggested by a band blogger) I read it on the spot (thank you Amazon Kindle!) and I believe it changed my perspective completely and put my head right about why things went sour, what I need to do to succeed and gave me tools to do it.

I'm sue by now you are on you seats' edge to get the title of this "magic bullet" - so here it is:

Skinny jeans... at last! by Clifton Thomas MD.

Finally a book more concerned about giving you a helping hand to succeed with your WLS than telling you what to pack for the hospital or what the mushy diet consist of or what or what a fill means.... A useful book for "old bandsters"!

Now go and read it!!!! I mean NOW!! (Then come back and let me know what you think)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
