I am more hungry now than before my fill. What is going on?

Recommended Posts

I am 54 days out from surgery. I have lost 28 lbs since surgery. I went in for a check up on the 5th of this month. I received a 1/2 cc fill for the first time at that appointment and now I am more hugry, sooner, than I ever was before. Was getting the fill a mistake or is this normal?

My doctor wanted me to eat more solid foods, he said I was still eating a lot of what he considred soft foods (i.e yougurt). I normally have yogurt for Breakfast just out of convenience and time. I have since changed to having two eggs in the morning around 7-8 am and I am starving by 11-12. I try to eat fish or something high in Protein and a vegtable for lunch and I am starving again by 3 in the afternoon. I will eat dinner between 4-5 in the evening and have again, something high in protein like chicken or fish again and a vegtable and I am again very hungry before bed.

I measure my food and weigh it carefully but it just doesn't seem to be enough to last me. What should I do? The doctor doesn't want me to supplement with Protein Shakes. Which I though was a great idea to boost my protein intake and keep me satisfied. With the 3 meals I eat a day I am not always getting a full supply of the protein that they want me to get to.

I am so confused and hungry! I need help!

It looks like you r on track. I eat 4-5 small meals every 3-4 hours, which is: breakfast, snack, lunch, dinner, and maybe a small snack later. Try my fitness pal, an online tracker. I keep my intake around 1200Cal, but workout hard 5 days a week. Also, bulk up on Water and hot liquids help with hunger, u love diet Coco. U may need a few fills to get to your sweet spot! Chin up, u can do it!!!

"Until there's restriction....It's still just another diet" B-52

It took me over a year to be able to discern the difference between head hunger and real hunger. You/we all have a lifetime of bad habits and addictions to overcome and it doesn't happen overnight.

Your doc is right. Fewer slider foods to feel satiety is needed. I ate more than the 1 cup of food until I got closer to the green zone(fill #4). I never liked that hungry feeling of discomfort.

Thanks guys. I do use myfitpal, religiously. I am not getting even 1000 calories most days. Should I increase my calories you think? My weight loss is very slow, about 1 lb a week or two. I jump up and down between a couple lbs everyday.

I am just trying to follow all my rules of the band as directed and hate to deviate from them much.

28 lbs is incredible. It's too soon to see a trend of 1 lb a week.

If you continue to exercise the same and eat the same day in and day out, you'll see the same results which are quite good. But, it's a good idea to push your self in the gym and at home. But I would increase your caloric intake up to 1400/day for 2-3 days in case your body is in starvation mode. Or, just increase to 1200 for a week or so? Keep the body guessing.

Maybe make an appointment with your nutritionist? It's possible you aren't taking in enough calories and need to stretch them out during the day? It's worth the inquiry. It sounds like you are doing great though!

I don't think you need more calories...while I realize that everyone is different, I am lucky if I get in 900 a day. I would never suggest anyone do something their surgeon says not to, but I honestly don't see why you can't add a Protein Shake. I have one every day and I'm almost 3 months post op...upping your Protein could make a huge difference in your hunger, if you don't want to add the shake how about adding string cheese or some sliced meat as a snack to increase your protein and also get plenty of Water between meals...Best Wishes :)

I have Greek yogurt mixed with 1/2 scoop Protein powder which thickens it up for breakfast everyday. I also mix in flavorless Fiber powder, some chopped walnuts, and high Protein Kashi go lean. Keeps me full for about 4 hours. The band even at restriction you will only go 4-5 hours before getting hungry. People who go 8 hrs before they are hungry are in the minority.

My doctor says 3 meals no Snacks.

I do sometimes have premier ready to drink Protein shake pre work out. I usually have about 7-8 hrs between lunch and dinner (long commute and go to the gym in the way home).

I think OP's doctor doesn't want them drinking calories.

My first fill was 4 cc's, and I gained weight afterwards.....before my 2nd fill....

I'm a littler surprised he only gave you 1/2cc...although I know a few ther people whose Dr.s led them on that way.....

Yeah I read that, but seriously, it sounds like she needs Protein to help with her hunger and shakes are a great source of protein and I do know that a liquid will pass through quicker than a solid....I take what my doctor tells me very seriously but he isn't the one that has to live my life and eat and drink what I eat, as long as I do not go over my portion (which I don't), eat crap (which I don't) and get my protein in, there's no problem. I drink a shake every day and I think I have been very successful in losing weight these last 3 months.. I wish you the best bar2373 :)

I would call your nutritionist.. If I had just 2 eggs for breakfast I would be hungry by 11-12 too! Doesn't sound like your getting enough calories in during the most important meal of the day

It sounds like you have a very, very conservative fill doctor....unless he/she used fluoro and seen you have restriction with such a tiny fill. Maybe theyre putting you through a learning/challenging phase for some period of time to ensure you can stick to a diet. I personally, my opinion & I realize everyone has their own, think it's better to get to proper restriction quickly. The reason I think this is because right now you say you are eating proper portion sizes. It's a struggle to not revert back to our past volumes of food without restriction. At least it was for me. If I could eat a band portion of food without the band providing restriction, I wouldn't have needed surgery to install it....

It's up to your willpower until you get proper restriction. Hopefully, you'll get there soon. Congrats on the loss so far! :)

I do believe my doctor is very conservative with fills. A friend of mine has been going to him also, and told me she has been losing weight little by little after surgery, and he doesn't want to give her any fills until she stops losing. I was the one that kinda insisted on getting a fill on my last appointment. I am like catfish, if I could diet like this on my own I wouldn't have got the surgery.

Thanks for everyone's input.

I think you need to eat more vegetables and fibre. These kind of foods help to fill you up and they are low cal. So you could try having some mushrooms with your eggs.A big salad with your lunch. Cooked veggies with your dinner etc.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
