Confused

Recommended Posts

I was banded a month ago and been happy to lose 13 pounds but in last 2 weeks it hasn't moved and now I've gained 4 back I knew this was possibly going to happen but I'm so confused as in not eating much max 1000 calories a day? I spoke to dietician she said dont worry when u get your fills u will lose but why? If I'm not eating much now and not losing why is a fill going to help as I'm still told to keep my calories at that anyway?! Very confused now :( any advice? Thanks

I also had a hernia repair. I started walking an hour a day by day 6 post op. nothing aggressive, just walking. Bu day 10, I was working on the couch to 5k and interval jogging... I just think in the hours I've read on here, no surgeon has said no activity at all... Don't go lifting weights, but just move your awesome bod :)

Pretty much, until you start eating regular foods again you are starving yourself. Your body is freaking out as it is not sure where the next meal will come from so it is holding onto everything and your metabolism has slowed right down. Your first 6 weeks are not for losing but for healing. A number of times I have read where people need to shock their system and perhaps for 2 days will up their calories to 1500 and then drop to 900 and then go back to 1200, it gets your body away from the same ole, same ole. You should also be walking, every day. good luck.

Restricting carbs ALWAYS gets the scales moving for me. Your yogurt probably has sugar too. I would ditch the cereal, crackers and sugary yogurt and add an extra low carb Protein Shake or two to your diet. I like the EAS low carb shakes (17 grams of Protein, 110 calories and only 3 carbs). Good luck. :-)

I would look at the total calories that you eat everyday. See if they are in the ball park of 1000-1200 calories which is the norm here. If you are, then please do not worry about it, the weight will come off. The fast weight loss in the beginning is a lot of Water loss, and if you eat anything salty, the weight can fluctuate. It doesn't take away the wonderful fact that you are indeed losing fat. :) Too fast of weight loss can lead to muscle loss and muscle is important to continue future fat loss since muscle helps burn fat. Congrats and hang in there. You're doing good.

Most of the weight we lose the first two weeks is only excess fluids and not really fat. You may be losing fat but retaining fluids due to the high amount of sodium from Soups and minced meats. You should at least be walking a few miles a day?

Obese people can retain several lbs of Fluid. The scale can't differentiate between Water gain and fat.

You should be close to or in the solid food stage by now? Consuming slider foods won't satisfy and most have high amounts of sodium and carbs. Eat normal foods and like someone else said, back off on the carbs, especially simple carbs.

I would ramp up on Protein and cut back on the carbs. Protein will fill you up faster and keep you full so you eat less. Eating carbs and not moving is a bad mix for weight loss I had a pretty bad hiatal hernia repaired while getting my band as well. I was not able to lift more than 10 pounds for a while after surgery but I certainly was able to walk and move around.

But most importantly, don't stress too much about weight loss right now. You are in the healing stage, focus on that, the weight will come off with fills.

I would confirm about no stress full cardio for 4 months. That seems really odd.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
