Fun Vacation in Texas

Recommended Posts

:welcome2: Hello Ladies and Gents! I have another exciting idea along the same line as DeLarla's Sangria Suarez in Vegas. I am considering having a "Texas Fiesta" bash and Slumber Party for those who would like to visit the Houston, TX area. I'm thinking about sometime this summer, but I wanted input from all of you to see if there was any interest in a Texas bash and what date(s) would be good for all of you'll. I also thought we could make a weekend of it like DeLarla's. Maybe have the Slumber Party on a Friday night (only ladies 18+ , sorry guys) then on Saturday we could all take a mini road trip or just party at my hacienda at get to know one another better. My home is not too far from Galveston Island, so the beach &/or Moody Gardens could be one option. We also have other fun things nearby like NASA space center, Old Town Spring (antiques, collectibles and other shopping), Raceway Park in Baytown (drag races, etc.), horseback riding and much much more. Let me know if this is of any interest to any of you and I'll be glad to start making the preparations for a Super Fun "Texas Fiesta" bash.

Texas bash sounds great. Not sure about holding it in the summer. It gets so hot here. I vote for a rental in Galveston and do beach, moody gardens, etc. in the area. NASA is more for family and not as much fun for a "gal" get away in MHO. Kemah could be fun and easy to get to from Galveston. Anyway, count me in.

Barbara-

I'm so glad you want to come!! It'll be a lot of fun. I love the Galveston idea. I guess we'll have to see how many people are interested and how much it will cost. The reason I suggested summer is I thought it might be easier for people with kids to be able to take the time off for a vacation then. I'm definately open to suggestions though. Help me round up the troops! :) :) :)

I think that would be great. I also live in Houston and will be banded by Dr. Spivak on May 10th. I think that late summer is a great time to have it in Galveston. There are different things to do like you said Moody Gardens or even Schlitterbhan since they have an outdoor and indoor part.:biggrin1:

:) Well, it definately looks like Galveston and Kemah are leading contenders thus far. They both are a lot of fun and are great places I think the out-of-towners and the locals will really enjoy! I'm hoping to get more responses soon so we can start planning accordingly. I'm absolutely excited about meeting some of my LBT sisters and brothers! :Banane56:

Maybe what we should do is setup a date, the place, the activities, and then solicit responses. Sometimes people respond better to the details. Galveston and Kemah are great locations. There's something for everyone. Looks like we might get some interest from nearby locations, Beaumont, Port Arthur, etc. Those that want to spend the night can, and those that want to spend the day with us can do that as well. We could decide on a hotel and everyone could make their arrangements if they wanted to spend the night. This could really be lots of fun.

I know a lot of Texas LBT sisters I would love to meet in person! I'd definitely be up for something like that. Wow, I'm glad I've been tanning! :Banane56:

A get together in Texas sounds like fun - I guess it depends on the details for me. What's Kemah? I've been in Texas for over 20 years and I don't know what that is? How could that be? LOL

As for a late summer date, DeLarla's Vegas Bash is in late August and I was already making plans to attend - is late August the right time for a Texas Bash?

:welcome2: Okay ladies... time for some input. I agree we need to firm up some of the details. First off, any suggestions on a summer date for this event? I suggest July 14th or 21st, but am totally open to suggestions. Don't forget we will be doing a Slumber Party at my home the Friday evening that the event begins. We could migrate to Galveston or Kemah on Saturday morning and could either spend one night there or even come back to my neck off the woods and make it a day trip only. It really depends on who wants to attend and the finances of everyone involved. I'd like to make this as economical as possible so more people would have the opportunity to attend. Please advise. :help:

I vote for July 21st. Gives everyone time to return after July 4th. I didn't realize we were spending the night at your house Friday. So that works for a day trip to Galveston or Kemah. Kemah is on the Water and has some stores and restaurants, for those that don't know Kemah. It is closer to Houston and not on the Island, as we call Galveston.

What part of town is the slumber party? That may decide where and what we do on Saturday. It will be hot, hot, hot so we must think about our activities carefully!

Donna-

Kemah is nearby Galveston. It's considered a "boardwalk" similar to Atlantic City without the casinos. It has lot of restaurants, carnival type games and several rides (mostly for the kiddies). There is also a neat place there that sells boat rides to tourists on the bay. It's really cool, but not really enough activities there to make it an over-night option.

Barbara -

I actually live in Richmond which is about an hour and 1/2 or so from Galveston. Not too bad of a drive. Unfortunately, I only have room at my home to accommodate a few. I was thinking about negotiating a deal with a nearby hotel for a discounted rate on a block of rooms. I used to work at a hotel so I have a few tricks up my sleeve to getting a better rate. Plus, the hotel rooms in my area will be a lot cheaper than the ones we'd be able to get in Galveston. Remember, summer time is prime tourist time in Galveston, therefore the hotel/motels tend to charge inflated rates during that time. What do you think? :Banane56:

Will you have the Slumber Party as an opener for the weekend so that those who want to attend that can, and those who don't can arrive a bit later? Honestly, I'm all up for a get together for a girl's weekend, but I'm not interested in the Slumber Party aspect of it. No offense, no judgements, its just not my thang.

And I don't care where we are as long as we have airconditioning and maybe a pool??

Not a problem at all! I'd say whomever wants to attend the Slumber Party can and anyone else that would like to join in the festivities could hook up with the rest of the gang either later Friday night or early Saturday morning. That way we could get an early start and make a day of Galveston / Kemah or whatever we decide.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
