In Desperate Need Of Help, Support And Maybe A Smack On The Cheek

Recommended Posts

I was banded in June and lost 30 lbs. I have kept it off but I HAVE not been a good lap bander :(

I am ready to get back on track and lose more weight. How do I go about starting the right path again? Should I start with liquids first? I really need to do this because not only did I pay a lot of money for it but I feel like I'm letting my mom down. Any advice would really help!

You have to be mentally ready for this. Go read my blog Real Talk from a Veteran bander. Get yourself back on track by not eating junk. Make a conscience effort to put good healthy food in your mouth. You spent the money so dont waste it.

I would just go back to eating like a bandster. 1 cup of food per meal

3 oz Protein 1/4cveggies 1/4 good carbs

Eat off small plate, 1min between bites, 20 min you're done regardless if plate is empty. Drink at least 64oz.

You should go back and talk with Dr & nutritionist.

Just do it the same way as when you lost the 30 lbs. Get hungry do something that keeps you busy.

You have to use your want power!

i think your thinking is a major factor. you must (want this) bad enough to do something about it IE: eating good quality foods/allotted amounts and exercising more. there is no special advice we can offer.

how do you start?

you just start. we all have to start somewhere...so start today, right now....if you go back to liquids, sure you could lose quickly, but when you start eating, if you dont change what and how much you eat, that Water weight will come back.

you can do it if you really want to

the dr gave you a tool and instructions, up to you (and me/us) to follow them...you are stronger than you think or give yourself credit for.

hang in there.

If it were me I would follow the advice above and I would call my Dr right away and get in to see him.

In the meantime I would start counting calories and tracking my food on a phone ap. I would make sure my next meal and every meal after that consisted of the following

3 oz protien

1/2 c veggies

1/4 starch / carbs

I would be strict with myself and no cheat... even a little until I saw dramatic results. I would ask myself...why do I want to stay fat when I have a tool to get thin? But most importantly I would do this for myself...not because my mother or someone else would be disappointed in me.

Best wishes as you get your head back in the game.

Hi Alli, first off I want to say congratulations for keeping those 30lbs off that you lost, you should be proud just for that. Secondly, since you already addressed that you have not been a good lap bander you are already aware of what you are doing wrong. Go back to basics as you once did to lose that 30lbs. Track everything you eat, seriously this is going to be the key to success. You already know how many calories you should have a day? Make an appt to see your surgeon, as in when was the last time was you in their office? It may be time for a fill? If your surgeon provides a Nutritionist, make it a point to sit with him/her to discuss a meal plan that fits your needs.

You are not alone in this, remember the reason you had surgery done in the first place.

Wishing you all the best!

I would do all the things everyone else suggested go to the DR. eat the right food in the right portions get rid of all the junk food. 5 day pouch test.

But..... How about sitting down with your self and figuring out why you are doing this to yourself??????????? See the band doesn't restrict your brain or your will... you choose to do that..And somewhere along the line you decided to cheat yourself out of all your hopes and dreams.. It is about you and while I am sure your mom may feel disappointed for you this is not about her. I am a mother and watching an overweight unhappy child is heartbreaking but I am also a daughter and my mom wasn't always my best friend. not saying your mom was like mine. But this is your journey You walk it and it is up to you whether you walk it Fat and unhappy or thin and confident.

While I am sure you appreciate all the back on track advice surely you do know how to do that stuff with out our saying it. Do yourself a big favor and try what I suggest. For me I write out everything I find that once I get things down in black and white and no BS I can take charge of my own needs . Best Wishes I never say Good Luck because Luck has nothing to do with success on this life journey.

Lol..cheznoel that was funny! I felt that smack from here lol. Well I wish u all the best allik07. I hav a large mirror that I eat in front of when im at home and believe me that keeps me from going over my limit. I was a huge bread & tortilla fan. My family cannot believe that I pass it up as many times as I have been around it. All I have to say is that I love getting on the scale and see it consistently go down everyweek more than I love white flour. ..lol :)

If your eating emotionally, I strongly suggest exploring www.shrinkyourself.com. That's shrink as in psychiatry, not as in getting smaller! It's a 12 week self guided program that forces you to ask yourself (and answer) the really tough questions. I'm on week 7 and don't even get banded for another week. I've learned so much from this program!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
