I Need To Start Over,i Can Use Your Help And Tips, Please!

Recommended Posts

So yes, I really need to start over. I need to stop dreaming about being at my goal weight and actually get there. Back in May I lost around 20 pounds, but stupid me, I started gaining it back, my friend started taking me out to dinner and then it started becoming a habbit and told him about it and told him we should go out every once in a while or every other month or something. I gained 13 of the 20 back I guess and it sucks!

In September, I had to go see my Surgeon to get some Fluid taken out of my band because I felt like I was throwing up all the time no matter what I ate and yes that was for liquids too, weird! I was 209 then. When I went back this month, I didn't lose anything or gained anything.

So, I go back to see my surgeon on the 19th of November and I want to prove that I got this and can do this, I want to lose between 5-10 pounds.

How should I go about starting over?

Like pre-op diet, liquid diet, mushie diet, then back to solid diet?

Or what's your suggestions/tips?

My goal weight is whenever I can fit into a size 4

My height is 5'0"-5'2"

My current weight is anywhere between 209-216 atm.

Thanks for anyone's help!

Are you exercising? I walk a track at the high school. I think it is faster, than street walking. HA! "street walking"!!! You know what I mean.

Also, I crank up the tunes when no one is home and dance in my kitchen.

My doc said if you don't exercise daily, it will be a struggle. Hope this helps.

You can do it.

My biggest help has been myfitnesspal.com where I track everything I eat every day and how long I excersize for. I am just starting the journey but it can't hurt to go back to the basics and maybe see the nutritionist. Getting all the crap out of my house also helped too. My daughter has gotten used to grapes or apples with Peanut Butter as her bestime snack! Good luck!!!!

I would just start using the LB rules and keep track of your intake. Many of us use MyFitnessPal for that.

Every meal 1cup of less, starting with your Proteins first, veggies and then good carbs. Total of one cup for all three.

Eat very small bites and chew 20-30 times putting down your utensil, wait 1 min between bites and you're done in 20 mins- whether you finished every thing or not.

No drinking until at least 30mins after your meal

64 oz of Water a day

exercise 30 min a day

Every Drs. orders are different and this is what mine told me.

This is all just a suggestion. The best thing to do is get a hold of your surgeon and talk to them and maybe see a nutritionist and find out where your problems lay.

I wish you all the best!

PS as far as going out to eat, that's ok, just make better food choices and bring half home for the next day.

Log your food. Know exactly how many calories and how much protien you are getting every day. Logging helps me so much, I have to answer to myself when I see I ate a snack that consisted of more calories than an entire meal.. it makes me think twice the next time before I eat it again. Aslo, just eat healthier. Ha Ha, I know it's not that simple but... it's not that hard. Fill up on your protien and fresh veggies. If you hungry eat a protien, greek yogurt or cheese or a piece of fruit. Leave chips and sweets alone (I don't know that you eat them, just saying) and I eat out often. I ALWAYS look at the website of the restaraunt before I go. Most places have lots of healthy choices. Know what you are going to eat before you go. And get some exercise!

Get back to the LB basic rules. You can do it!!!!! Best of Luck!

A trick for eating out is to ask for a take out box when they bring your food. Transfer all but your lapband approved portion into the container first. Then eat what is on your plate. Up side is another meal for later on.

I agree with this street walking, dancing fool....

I use a FitBit to track my movements, it is great. Got me climbing stairs at work, currently I goal for at least 25 flights a day. Had a few days at 50.

Every little move helps. :)

All of these are great, but Maddysgram has to be my fav answer.

I think what I am going to do is write down the rules and bring it with me everywhere I go to remind myself, along with a note book to log in my food intake/calories and exercise, if I lost more than 20 pounds, I can lose it again and more.

I know my problem, it's not eating right, not taking my time eating right, not drinking enough Water, not taking Vitamins, and drinking with meals. When I first got this surgery, I was much more serious and scared about things getting stuck and following the rules, what happened to me?

What can I take to make my hair get thicker (B12? Prenatals, I hear that helps?)

I love walking, loooooooooonnnnnngggggg walks and going on adventures. I also like to play Dance Central 2, it's the only fun workout thing I have for indoors.

How much food should I be eating at every meal? I always thought it was 3/4c-1c? No eatting after 8pm

What if I forgot some of the rules?

What are the biggest rules to remember?

Chewing?

No drinking with meals?

Eat slowly?

Most of the time, like I've mentioned in other posts, I would skip Breakfast and lunch, NOT GOOD! I know.

I need to get in more Protein and sometimes I don't like Protein Shakes.

I don't think I've ever gotten in enough Protein in since when I got the surgery done.

I don't drink enough Water ):, I sometimes find it hard for me to drink water.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
