October 2012 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

i was banded on 13 October and I'm starving every 2 hours! My first fill appointment is on November 10 and my weight counselor at my doctor told me that it is very important that you tell the doctor on the day what your hunger is like because that will dictate whether they give you a fill or not and if so' date=' how much. If you aren't hungry you should tell them that you aren't hungry and see what they say. You dont want to get to restricted and not be able to keep down any food.[/quote']

I'm just gonna start gnawing on his arm! Do you think he'll get the point? I was banded oct 5, appt nov 5 and I am bout to die up in here! Ha Jk! I've lost 30 lbs though even though its been a challenge. Sometimes I wake up in the night really hungry and have to have some hot tea just to sleep! Can't wait for this phase to be over!

30lbs is amazing! Holy cow how have you done it in one month?! I am right there with ya on the gnaw the arm bit..I am dying to get to a better point of not needing to eat all the damn time! I'm always under calories, but it makes it harder to keep under when you are always starving!!

I got banded on 10/19 and lost 12lbs pre op and then 9 more 5 days post op. I am at the exact same weight up or down a pound. What I don't understand is how I am eating 1/8th of the food I used to eat and the weight not falling off. Am I the only one here?

I'm with ya on that..! omg.. I have lost 28lbs in less than a month.. but it has been so challenging. I am hungry a lot.. and when I'm not its because I am so busy... although my tummy yells at me so much.. I just ignore it and keep going. I just started the mushy phase.. which I am actually just eating soft foods now.. and chewinig till i cant anymore. I stopped losing weight.. and I have not been over 1000 cals.. so not sure whats going on there. I am pretty sure I need a fill because I am starving.. I have never had so much control in my life and sometimes I feel as if I am going to get out of control... I am keeping it together though! I eat a cup or soft green Beans and bonless chicken.. mostly.. and a Protein Shake with soy slender choclate milk.. 8oz.. with a banana.. had that twice so far.. what are you all eating?

I have no idea! Not really I know. I only eat high qual foods, veggies and Protein, 1 fruit a day and 1 milk a day. Around 500-650 cal a day.

12 lbs is great! You should not worry at all. Just stay the course.

I am about the same, I dropped 10lbs pre-op, down 10lbs post-op the first week after surgery, now nothing for the past 2 weeks. I go tomorrow for my first post-op visit and fill. I really hope this helps. I have been thinking that my body has gone into starvation mode because even though I have been trying to stay under the 800cals. A day they told me to, I have had really bad hunger pains for the past 3 days :(

I don't have my first fill for four more weeks. I am not really hungry, just really miss food lol. After only eating broth and Jello for three weeks, it makes you wonder when you go to mushies and eat more calories, will you not but on weight? I'm not complaining, just confused on how this works when our calorie intake has been extremely reduced. One more question, why is banders weight loss so much slower than gastric bypass? How much less can we possibly eat?

Hi Kitty. I would love to continue to hear of your progress.

Oh, thank you. Ok, well yesterday I finally took off the steri strips. I was chicken because I thought it would hurt. It didn't hurt too much but now my incisions are sore. I was doing pretty good. It's not bad but a little pain. Going on Thursday for my post op visit. Probably will advance to mushy food then. When do you go to yours? Keep me posted too!

Good lord that is nothing!

I'm eating about 1000 calories a day and exercising 5 times per week on an elliptical machine. I'm in pants I have fit into for ages so maybe some of mine is muscle gain but still 30lbs in a month is awesome! I'm at 12.5 lbs today 23 days post surgery. I know it's more from before surgery but I didn't weigh myself before surgery day so I don't know how much!

12lbs in a week is insanely good! My doctor said the most they have ever had someone loose in 1 month is 15lbs so you are flying!!

Hey everyone! I was banded on Halloween and i feel great! I have lost 4.4 since my surgery on full liquid and not feeling too hungry yet. I lost 12.4 on my liquid pre-op diet and was starving by day 10. My total weight loss since the beginning is 25.8 and I'm super satisfied with that. I look forward to keeping up with everyone

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
