Banded In 2008 And Still Not At My Goal

Recommended Posts

So I was banded in September 2008. I went from 218 to 165 in 9-10 months and have been stuck at this weight since then! My goal is 130-135 and no matter how I work out or eat I can't seem to lose the rest. I'm so frustrated because now I have a lot of my Fluid removed because when I get a fill my reflux is unbearable. I was in my sweet spot a year ago and got really sick for a month and had to have my Fluid removed because my pouches swelled and I couldn't eat or drink. Ever since then I can't get back to my sweet spot and have gained 8 pounds :( I would love to hear if anyone else is struggling like this. I had an EGD done last year and there was no band slippage. So that's not the reason. I work out 3-4 days a week and eat pretty healthy using my fineness pal. Help!!! lm at a loss :((

I'm sorry, I don't have any words of wisdom for you since I'm still a newb, but just wanted to congratulate u on ur weight loss so far. To me, I think it's amazing. I wouldn't mind weighing what u do at all.

Sounds just like me, I however have had a minor slip. I had my band 3 yrs ago. After obtaining my "sweet spot" after the 5th month and 3rd fill, I finally started losing. Started at 248 and got down to 144 last Dec. 135 is my goal. I continued to do vomit almost everyday (I know, a no-no) and finally my band slipped about 6 mths ago. After unfills/fills/band tweaking, I've got a little restriciton but not as much as I had. I've gained 16 lbs since last Dec. I now weigh 160 and I'm determined not to go 1 lb above that.

I've prided myself on never counting or measuring anything. I go by what my body is telling me. Well, lately at nite, especially, it's been telling me to graze like a cow. I guess I need to start listening to my head and not my body! I really want to get to goal someday. Those last 20 lbs are definitely the hardest.

Why Oh Why didn't I listen to everyone who told me to slow my eating and stop vomiting? Thought I had it under control. My band tolerated 2 1/2 yrs of almost daily vomiting, it wasn't gunna stand for it one more day. I'm starting to say no to so many of my best friends (carbs) and yes to Protein. I still don't count or measure, but I definitely am trying to stop when my stomach says "hey I've had enough" - which I haven't been doing. Haven't vomited but twice in the last 4 mths, which is progress. My husband and I go to the gym 3x a week and I've stepped it up to 4. I've got to get to 135 in this lifetime! Can't afford a whole new bigger wardrobe!

Good luck to you! I know exactly how you feel. I know I can do it - hey, I've done it before. Why is it so hard the 2nd time around?

Marci

Totally with you girl! Got my band in April 2011, started at 220, got to 159 and now I hover between 160 and 165. I can't get and stay below that 160 mark. Exercise 5 days most weeks including running about 8 miles a week and eat lots of Protein and fruit, not much "bad stuff" but beginning to think this is just where I'm supposed to be! Gotta love being size 8 and 10 again though from an 18!! Hang in!

I was just wondering, and I don't know how to ask this without it sounding weird, but do u guys think maybe ur already at ur ideal weight but perhaps jut have some excess skin from weight loss??? I assume that after I lose enough weight that I would need some nip/tuck to get how I want to be.

Wallflower: I have no extra skin. I was lucky in that dept.

My problem is a lot like Marci's...up until a year ago I was vomiting at least 1-2 times a day. It became a way of life. I don't do it very often now, but it's because I eat slower now. But it seems like now that I can't get a fill right now I'm having to watch everything that goes in my mouth. I've never eaten bad and have always worked out. I gained weight in my early 20's because of a health condition PCOS and insulin resistance. I didn't know I had it until I was 27. So before all that started I was always in good shape and very athletic. Then I gained 80 pounds in 6-7 years and didn't know why at the time. Now that I'm back to my old self, I know what my body is capable of, but I can't seem to get it there. I'm having a hard time dropping fat, but I can build muscle well. It's a frustrating position right now for me.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
