I Had A Fill 2.5 Days Ago

Recommended Posts

Did all liquids the first day, mushies yesterday, back to normal today. I had a sandwich at lunch and was fine (removed the crust because that is more difficult to go down). Sat down at dinner with chicken and mixed veggies and some fruit. After about 2 bites of chicken, and a piece of zucchini, I got stuck. It went away so I tried again. And for the first time since being banded, I raced to throw up. And have been doing it since (so about 2.5 hours now). Sometimes it's actually food, but sometimes it is (sorry for the TMI), slime or foam. I thought I was taking small enough bites. Certainly smaller than before since I was earned that this fill was probably going to make me much tighter than before. I've never gotten stuck on chicken, and certainly not on anything to this extent. The chicken was a bit dry but I had BBQ Sauce.

Is this normal? Am I possibly overfilled? For what it is worth, I'm at 7ccs. My band is larger than most on here, it's between a 12-15 but I don't remember the exact number.

Only you can know for sure if you're over filled, however considering you ate a sandwich for lunch with no problems, I would guess that you just took too big a bite and/or ate too fast at dinner. Now your stomach is irritated and swollen from the stuck episode.

I would go very easy the rest of today, liquids only, then take even smaller bites and pause between them tomorrow. It's definitely a learning experience after fills. I actually got a tiny unfill of .3cc today because I was slightly over filled this past Tuesday.

Good luck!

It reads to me that you are still experiencing a stuck episode...and that your band is likely too tight.

My surgeon advised me to stay on a liquid diet for a week to see if I would be alright after my last fill felt too tight in his office. He was right; I followed a liquid diet for 5 days post fill, and after my tissues adjusted, I was alright.

Though I did not stay on the full liquids for the entire week, I went back to eating food only after I felt better and thought I would be able to eat.

I'd go back to a full liquid diet for the rest of today, and call your surgeon's office in the morning to advise them what is going on with you.

Feel better...

Give it a few days. For whatever reason I don't notice the impact of fills for a couple of days and it takes me a week to settle in to the new restriction. Who knows it could have been the bread at lunch that was still sitting in your pouch and thus dinner went down harder then normal. Go back to liquids or soft foods for a day or so and see how it goes.. Then be sure to take small bites and chew chew chew. If it doesn't improve by Monday I would call the dr.

Good luck,

Maybe the chicken was too dry or you didn't chew enough. What you are experiencing is normal for a stuck episode, and I have had the episode last 2-3 hours as well. The only thing that I noticed was my Dr. Had me on liquids 2 days after my fill, as well as 2 days for each stage that follows.

I had a fill on Tuesday which put me in the green zone and I had chicken with salad for dinner tonight and it went down fine. I did cut it up into pieces as small as a finger nail and chewed really well. It was the thigh part which I had cooked last night but still moist enough. Before I cook my chicken I also tenderize it and find its a lot softer.

The first time I actually had 'restriction' was a hard couple days. Even though I was eating smaller bites and chewing more, I had a few PB episodes and a lot of stuck episodes. I finally figured out that even though I was eating more like a banded person, I was still not eating small enough bites, chewing enough, or waiting enough time in between bites.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Tried again this morning with a banana, but no go. I'm going to give it a couple of days on liquids and see since I'm sure all the PB'ing and vomiting may have irritated my band.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
