I am 2 days post op. Sore as heck. Lots of broth, tea, Water and Jello. Gas X strips, phenergan and hydrocodone. Can't bear my meds crushed, so I'm taking them one at a time, 10 minutes or so apart and cutting the bigger pills into small pieces.

I really want some real food!!! by the time I get done with this regime, I think I'll be a lot more appreciative of food than I ever have been before.

hang in there Dear heart it's so worth it it just sucks in the beginning i think day 2-3 were the worse and then I started to feel better each day after so hang in there you can do it

Hi Everyone! I am officially 7 days post op now (Banded on the 16th) and I must say that I feel about 90% back! It is a good feeling too! A few days ago I was teary because I just couldn't pick up my 17month old daughter who was crying for me, but I wiped the tears, listened to my husband tell me that she will never remember that moment and got back focused! Last night I slept on my side with a pillow in front of my belly giving it a little support and I slept like a rock!

For those of you only a few days out it does get better quickly! I had a hernia repair too so I feel your pain! I do have a growling belly alot, but I just keep drinking my Water and having a half of a cup of Soup periodically helps ease that up. I know at times I am hungry but not interested or craving anything. I mean don't get me wrong, things look good but I have been too sore and through too much to even be tempted! I honestly hope I remember the pain and discomfort for the rest of my life when I have days when I want to stray from my plan!

Good luck everyone, we all are just starting a journey this month and it is going to be one heck of a ride!!

Boy, am I glad to hear it ;) THe more I move around the better I feel, but I'm still only like 25% of what I'm usually able to be - I have to admit that's frustrating because I am so used to being the one in charge, lol. My husband is keeping the house clean for me, so that's pretty awesome :)

How was your 3rd day out? I hear that's the worst?

I would say day1 I was like this isn't bad( I was still at the hospital) and then the morhpine wore off ;) DY2-3..I was like you have to be kidding me and I'm suppose to walk and drink  it was the worse I was so swollen internally from the pocedure and externally from the gas and fluids. DY4 I was like Ok I just might make it and everyday has been better today I actually noticed the birds chirping and the sun shining(DY8) :D so I am wishing and praying you through to DY5(better safe than sorry..HAHA) just so you know I am so proud of you I know there are people that want to be right were we are but haven't gotten the nerve up to do this be WE DID IT our future is so bright I have to put on shades(so I'm a corny sap when I'm happy... :D

I felt a little better this morning. I ended up sleeping in a rocking chair last night and that helped. Having a hard time using the bathroom. :( I feel if I could just go I would be 100 xs better. Just taking my meds and relaxing as well as getting up and walking as much as I can. My husband is worried though because i'm sleeping alot and not hungry.

I basically slept the first 2 days. I would fall asleep talking, the hunger will come trust me, drink your fluids they are way important I did not drink enough and it caused me severe Constipation, if they did not give you some liquid Colace see if you can get some but still push your fluids.

My surgery is tomorrow morning. Today was to SLOWEST day ever! Now just have to get through tonight. I am feeling so many emotions - excitement, nervousness, hope. I know that I'm making the best decision for myself and just need to get tomorrow over with. This group has helped alot. Hearing everyone else's fears, successes, suggestions, and encouragment has really made me feel like I'm not in this alone.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
