That leaves with a little under 200 lbs to go after surgery. Wow, what a challenge! I think that's the first time I've ever written it down. I usually just think in general terms of "losing weight" not those kid of specifics. Heck, I just barely told my husband and my therapist what I weigh, now only they and my doctor know. I guess its all baby steps when the goal is this big.

At the time of surgery I had 181 pounds to lose. I would have had more if I didn't have my pre-op diet and the 40 pounds I lost from not drinking "Diet Coke". (Believe it or not lol) I think putting it down in writing helps. It makes you look at your progress in a whole new light. Congratulations on everything! You are doing great!

I couldn't believe it when I only had just over 100 pounds to lose after only 6 months! I am happier with myself and happier all around in my life. I know you will be too.

Good luck on your journey. :clap2:

Thank you all for the words of encouragement and support. I'm having a particularly hard day on this pre-op diet, and I think you have all saved the day! Someone had the nerve to bring a chocolate cake into the office today!! Doesn't he know I'm suffering? Oh well, I just gave him and ear full of hurt. Without all that food to keep my anger stuffed down, I'm like a whole new angry woman! :heh:

Wen, I'm feeling your pain! I've been doing the full-liquid pre-op diet since May1st. I still can't believe that I've been 10 days with chewing. :clap2:

At work, I just keep working and pretend food doesn't exist. :faint: But it's hard, because at staff meetings folks love to bring food - honey Buns, Cookies, cake. This happens every Tuesday. And the first week, I was pretty angry. I didn't have food to hide my emotions and so they were just raw. I've also found myself anxious, I think I also used food to calm my anxiety. But I'm just taking it day by day, meal by meal. I just wish I could stop dreaming about food!

Hi Maryum, You're getting banded two days before me. Not long now! We've gone way to long on this liquid thing to mess it up in the last couple of days right? :) At least I keep telling myself that! Hehehe. I feel better today, days 8, 9, and 10 were pretty awful, and I didn't lose any weight on those days, which just made me even more moody. Maybe in a few weeks when we are banded and enjoying our mushies, we will look back on all this and laugh. :)

I remember in the beginning and I was having anxiety attacks on the liquid stage (a month before and 2 weeks after) I was on Medifast. I didn't know why I was having anxiety attacks. I believe you are right in saying that the food was a way to suppress that. I am better now. I remember my heart racing and feeling like I couldn't breath. I found that some deep breathing was really helpful to me.

It took me a long time to be able to eat anything sweet (especially chocolate) after the liquid diet, though. LOL. I guess that's a good thing.

In the end I feel that it taught me a little about myself and my obsession with food. I know why and how I became the way I was. I am more aware of it and that helps a lot.

I longed for the mushie stage and when the day finally came I was in heaven. ;)

I hope this helps you get through it a little better. It is all worth it in the end.

I understand the anger, but.....

The person who brought the cake doesn't deserve any crap about it. He isn't responsible for you and your feelings or your hunger. Saying "I'd rather you didn't bring cake since I'm trying to diet" is one thing, but an "ear full of hurt" is another. One of the things we all have to learn is how to deal with "bad stuff" around us, since it will always be there. It is our problem, not theirs.

It is a bitch, and it isn't fair, and is just one of the many things we don't like. But I know your mama didn't promise you life would be fair....because if she did she was lying or stupid.

I know you'll learn to deal with it, even though it is hard. Just another part of learning to live with a band.

You'll make it,

dan

I should be getting a reply within a week or so. Then I will schedule surgery for late june/early july. I have lost 34 pounds so far making lifestyle changes in anticipation of my surgery. Keep your fingers crossed for me please!:clap2:

This is my first post. I'm Veronica from Sydney, Australia and am getting banded on June 6. I've never told anyone this but my BMI was 51 when I had my first surgeon's visit last week (The funny thing was, I was pleased because a couple of year ago, it was 55.5). After 5 days on the pre-op diet it's now just under 50. I don't know how to maintain this diet for 3 more weeks but I'll take it one day at a time and think of my liver.

I'm so happy to find this thread because I often think that I'm the fattest person in the world and that no one understands how difficult life is when you're this big. Reading through the posts has been such a relief.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
