Pre Op Diet Suggestions

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for lapband procedures Aug 1, 2012. I began the liquid diet on July 18. My RD told me to have 4 Protein Shakes unsweetened applesauce, sugar free fat free pudding and Jello. Let me say its not easy. Talking to other lapbanders they suggested substituting 1 Protein Shake for wonton Soup ( without the wonton) of course and getting steamed broccoli and put red pepper flakes to spice it up. I even boiled the frozen spinach in Water and seasoned with red pepper flakes and mucho black pepper. I then added the spinach to the soup with the broccoli and it was delicious.... Let me tell you it taste like steak and potatoes it really hit the spot and I feel confident that I could get through the next 2 weeks. So far its been 1 week and I lost 10 pounds. I want to say stay focus and keep pushing because you deserve it.

Does anyone else have suggestions for Pre Op diet

I would be careful about substituting anything for a Protein shake. Different surgeons have different diet recommendations, I'd say call him up and ask if that's okay. Sounds perfectly healthy to me, but I'm not a doctor and there may be a very good reason that he wants you to stick to only the shakes.

Did he give you certain brands of Protein Shakes to use? If you have options, I'd suggest trying a few different ones. My doctor told me that out of the cheaper brands, I could use Myoplex, Pure Protein, or Muscle Milk. I tried Muscle Milk first for about four days and felt like total garbage, I had a constant Migraine, was light headed, and I couldn't think straight. I switched to Pure Protein a few days ago and I feel MUCH better using it. I haven't been light headed much at all, and I've felt fuller even though I'm using a smaller serving. (was using 2 scoops of Muscle Milk, but the doc told me to only use 1, so I cut it in half when I switched) So try switching up those shakes, you might find something that makes you feel better, or at least something that tastes better. Good luck!

I'm on day 11/14 of my diet. My surgeon is very strict with it. 4 Protein Shakes (my dietician actually told me to get Slimfast High Protein) a day and non-caloric liquid. Nothing else. The Slimfast shakes are actually pretty good, but after 11 days of it, it's getting awfully old. I keep telling myself it will be worth it in the end!

I did clear it with the Dr. he said it was okay. Your right it is best to check with your Dr. at the time I needed something else to keep me motivated. I didn't want to cheat and lose focus on my goals. It's hard to keep the Pre Op diet and if you can gain some insight on trying different things it only helps. If you think about it steamed broccoli has no crabs and is filling. The wonton broth only has a low amount of calories. My Protein Shake gives you 26 grams of Protein per serving. The RD said that was the best.

If the doctor said okay then go for it! Sounds yummy, I might try it. I love wonton broth. Another thing you can try to keep you full longer is to take your food/shakes REALLY slowly if you aren't already. I swear it helps keep me full a lot longer, plus it will help get us ready for when we are banded and CAN'T eat too quickly.

I basically lived off Carnations Instsnt Breakfast. chocolate vanilla strawberry are delicious I still drink them 5 months post op. also Tomato Soup was like a steak dinner to me. Oh and crystal light ice cubes crushed up helped with the urge to crunch on something. Good luck!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
