Are Skinny People Treated Better?

Recommended Posts

LMBO at all the responses!!! I waws always heavy, and I lost 80lbs with Atkins and I noticed a difference. I think I felt differently about myself too so I acted differently.

But I gained 30lbs back so I am working to get that off plus some extra. I know that people act differently at resturants, at the gym, at work, not so much while Im out shopping though.

B-52 I too find myself analyzing people who have issues with weight when I see them out and about, and Im sure I see myself in some of them too.

Yes' date=' I believe this is true. I also believe employers are sometimes put off by obese people who apply for jobs. It also could be that obese people sometimes do not dress properly for an interview.[/quote']

There is a hospital here in Texas that has a policy that they will not hire employees with BMI's greater than 35. So even though I am a hard worker, able to be on my feet 12 hours a day without complaint, & no health issues other than being overweight, I can not obtain employment as a nurse with 10+ years experience bc my BMI is 36.....that's what I call discrimination!

Well the only thing I can say then if you feel you were treated differently when you were heavy is that people only treat you the way that you let them and if you let them treat you differenlty then who is to blame. I have never been turned down for a job, been treated rudely, always had doors held for me at my heaviest, never had an issue with men treating me badly when I was overweight. I guess it all depends where you live because I never have been treated badly because of my weight.

Well .... Good for you. But everywhere else, in the "real world"..., larger people are treated differently. It has been proven over and over again in tv documented programs. I consider my self an attractive person and a very out-going extrovert. But the facts are.... thin people are treat differently from fat people.

How do you know for sure that you have never been turned down for a job because of your weight....? Do you really think someones going to come out and tell you..... I would love to hire you, but your too fat..... Hell no, they are going to give some other reason. And as far as people treat you the way you want to be treated.... really. When i was fat, i never woke up and said..... hummm today i want to be treated badly. Let me go out and find some one to do that because I deserve it.

Thank u!! I was totally ticked when I read that posters comments like we were all weak and allowing ourselves to be mistreated! With the kind of attitude I imagine she is always treated the same whether thin or fat...

Glad u said something. I thought I was over reacting hehe. Thirty ppl come on here and say they were treated diff on here then this jack comes on and insults us all!

My wife got banded last fall and has lost about 45 pounds since then. But to share one of her experiences. She took a plane to go out of town for work and on that plane a guy who sat next to her complained to the flight attendant because he didnt want to "sit next to a fat person". Sadder is that the guy was fairly overweight himself..so much he couldnt connect his belt because of his gut. He also complained that he had to sit next to someone who was overweight to complete strangers as well. I told her if I had been on the plane I would have decked him. The jerk!

ha... anyone that knows me knows that i would have told he.... oh yeah, well i use to be 223lb and i hate sitting next to stupid people. oh.. and by the way your no skinny person your self. Then i would have called the flight attendant over and said loudly, can i please move... it really bothers me to have to sit next to stupid people who don't have mirrors...

just a little background.... i am the person that will tell you you have too many items for the 20 item or less lane...

I was a size 4 seven years ago and now need Lapband so I know both sides of the fence. Thinner people are definitely without a question treated kinder. It goes from the airlines which are the worst offenders down to the waiters in restaurants. That is one of the main reasons I want to get thin again is I miss that treatment! I notice especially when eating out that you order and people around you look at you as if to say "she is eating dessert". Such a bias!!!!

I am actually considering doing some writing on this subject because I have seen it first hand.

ABSOLUTELY!!! :wacko::angry: :angry: :angry:

I have been passed up for a promotion because of my weight.

Also- my OB doctor was "fat-phobic." I believe I received sub-optimal care because he was disgusted by my weight.

I don't feel like when I was bigger I was treated mean when I was bigger... I just feel like people are generally more helpful and nice to me now.

I understand that I work for a contracting company in the middle east. They told me I had to get my BMI level down by my next physical. Which is next year. I have to be under 30 to obtain employment overseas. Oh and I don't work in the RED Zone either.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
