Just Banded Yesterday

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I got my band yesterday morning and I'm in quite a bit of pain. I feel like someone is stabbing me in the shoulder and my stomach is very sore. Any ideas of how to feel a little better? I was only able to sleep for 3 hours last night (not even 3 straight hours :-/ )

I was banded Wed. I was using ice on my stomach for the first day then I switched to heat. I have done the blood clot walk a lot. That helps. Take your meds NO MATTER WHAT. Do not over do it

I call it the blood clot walk cause they focused on walking and how important it is to walk. That is good though.

I cleared the heating pad with my Dr.

I may have to go buy a heating pad. It was so hard to find a comfortable position between the stabbing shoulder pain, sore back, and sore belly. Did the ice help a lot?

It helped me some. I would be OK then the ice would melt. Some people say on here to move your shoulders around. I guess its just tine that will make the pain go away.

When I first woke up and felt how badly it hurt I def did say to myself "maybe this was a bad idea" but the pain is only temporary, right?

I am hoping and praying that me being only 25 will help me to heal faster.

The shoulder pain is from the gas that they put inside to inflat your tummy. Take some gas-x and do not lay flat. If you have a recliner, sleep in it up right. That will keep the gas from moving up in to the shoulder where it can not escape. I haven't been banded yet, but have had 2 other surgerys where they had to fill me with gas. sleeping upright helped the most. It will push the gas back down and out the bottom..

Good Luck, hope you have a better day and night today.

HI. I had read alot on here about using a heat pad so I borrowed 2 hot Water bottles off my sister and used one for my stomach and put the second on my right shouder( i didnt get left shoulder discomfort). They weren't 'painful' as such but uncomfortable so they felt nice and helped me sleep. I walked round the room little but oftenish and also rotated my arms( like making big wheel motions) a few times which also helped.

Make sure you have something to help with Constipation though as You probably won't go for a few days anyway but it can be uncomfortable when you do and for the following few times. I tried prune juice but am sticking to milk of magnesia which is great.

Hope you're feeling better soon but rest loads and keep up with the fluids xx

I know everyone keeps saying walking is key but it seems to put me in more pain. This morning I went outside ( I live on the 2nd floor) and walked to the corner and back then back upstairs and I needed to lay down and take a pain pill. And just a little while ago I went into my basement to throw something in the wash and thought I was dying when I got back upstairs. Maybe I should just avoid stairs?

I've found I can get comfortable in a half sitting position on my couch so i think that's where I'll be trying to sleep tonight. I only got 3 hours last night :-/

Thank you for the ice tip. In laying on the couch with my ice pack now and feeling a little better. :) I hope you are feeling better than earlier today

Banded Monday. The gas was not a problem for me. I totally used the meds. Now I am tylonol. The worst getting in and out of bed and finding a comphy position. I am so swollen though they did the Lapband hiatal hernia and had to fix some sort of bleed so two of my incisions are about two inches long. Today I had a yogurt. Yum but I was full before I are it all new concept. I go back to work on Monday

I had my band in Tuesday and today is the best day yet! I still have some left shoulder pain but slowly everything is getting better! The gas-ex isnt going to help much because it's for gas in your stomach and this is all over, keep at the walking....that does help with the gas and I find that the heating pad does too! Hang in there!

I was banded on Wed. I am feelling a bit better everyday, but definatly sleep in an upright position and use the heating pad. Also take your pain meds. Milk of Magnesia was a life saver as it has helped me pass gas and releive that bloated feeling. My stomach is still very distended and the area where the port is, is very sore.......I am hoping that this will be all worth it in the end. Just keep your head up and walk, walk, walk....it really does help!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
