do you have insurance or is this self pay? maybe because i have insurance - we have hoops to jump through and that maybe why they have called me several times to make sure i've contacted the insurance company for their guidelines and such. the seminar i went to was on a saturday - thank goodness.

have you been doing any pre-op diet on your own???

i'm sure all will be great for your surgery tomorrow - I wish you much success....keep me posted.

They put me on something similar to the Atkins diet last Monday and I havne't lost a pound...I'm so mad about that. My insurance is only covering half so I have to finance $5500 of it, and that was approved right away, so there wasn't any phone calls.

OK....i guess since my insurance is covering most of it - maybe that's why - i have to do the 6 month LONG wait.....but appt two is around the corner and i'm sure it will be here soon enough.

sorry your insurance company didn't cover more....

LOL, Me too... It's better than nothing tho. At least they have in house financing. It also got the process done a lot faster. Only took about a month to get everything done and surgery scheduled, I guess I can't complain.

Wow, I have United Health Care too, but they will only cover 50% so I have to pay $5500 that I'm financing with them.

I also had UHC.... They paid at 80%. Plus all of my pre op was co pays... 20buck.

If i may make a suggestion..... I just recently had my Tummy Tuck and was also going to finance thru Care Credit.... at like 20-some-% interest.... Crazy...

So i went to Chase bank and got the Slate card that i got with a 8000 limit at 0% interest for 15 months... my monthly note is 80bucks.....so i'm paying 200 to knock it down faster..... if i don't have it paid by the 13th month i'm going to put the remainder on my discover card at 0% interest till i pay it off.

This worked out better for me than pay for the finance charges and ALL that interest.... So if all goes as planed.... i will have paid ... no interest or finance charges.... AT ALL.

Good luck to both of you....

I wonder why UHC only paid 50% on mine. :( Everyone has has better luck with their insurance.

each company decides what types of benefits to add to their policies....it's all depended upon where you work and what type of policies they added. I got lucky....I guess

This is true.... i use to work in Insurance and it all depends on the company you work for and the "options" they chose to cover.

Don't mean to be a "Debbie-downer" I'm just more worried about the swiftness of your surgery. did you have to do a psych exam? cardio? ... how much counseling did they do? how much are you prepared for the life long commitment?

I picked my surgeon first, Dr. Robert Snow in Hurst. I went to the dietitian at True Results, which is in the same building. They were all very nice and supportive. I can have fills done there but Dr. Snow does them too and he deadens the site! I had Aetna that covered the surgery 80% and the surgery was done at Baylor Trophy Club. I picked Dr. Snow because I worked with 3 women who had already gone through him and loved him.

Didn't do a psych exam, but they did do cardo, blood work and ekg...I've been doing a lot of reading and I'm more than ready to make the commitment. I just need a little help from the band. Thank you for you concern tho.

Glad to hear that you have taking steps to educate your self. I was lucky in that my friend had her surgery a year before me and she was my sounding board. In fact her girlfriend had her LB the same day as me. Now we all have the same doctor. At the time he only choose 4 people per month to do the surgery on. He could have done more, but he only chose the ones he deemed "ready" for the life long commitment. I'm so glad he chose me....

I worry about the "clinics". I don't feel they do enough education and almost seems like they are just in it for the money..... moving people in and out like cattle.

I would also double check with your insurance about your coverage. 50% does not seem right. They may be doing a little sneakiness to get more money. For example: if the national trend is LB at say.... $30,000..... but your doctor charges $40.... then the doctor has to eat or write off the $10... no covered. They maybe not wanting to "write off" the extra.... just check.

I was banded with Dr. B True Results of Richardson November 17th. I have UHC and no the Surgery Center was not in-network but as they say the accept the in-network price. Even though it stated I was responsible for paying 27,000 I was only billed for $500 which is what they told me at the time of surgery. They do work with you and your insurance company. Dr. b and the staff are great, any questions just call them up. So far so good for me, no problems, no complications, no pb'ing, rashes or anything like that. I was at the center today. I didn't get a fill as od now I'm at 5cc and down 24.6lbs since November 17th. Starting weight was 238 day of surgery. Of course for me I'd like a bit more weight loss by now but the staff say I'm on target. Of course it's all what you put in it. If you have any questions just inbox me I can even provide you with my email address. Good luck tomorrow and wish you the best.

I read that on another post you commented on. So far I haven't had any communication with them really...My surgery is tomorrow, and I'm very excited. How did it go for you? How are you felling? I still have so much to learn, like what is the post op diet they recommend? I have no idea. I'm assuming they'll tell me tomorrow. I hope your doing well. Anything imput you can give me would be great.

WOW - can't tell you how much better I feel now...I was worried it was a type of a scam to get me to go through them - they get paid and WHOOPS...you are out of network you owe $25000 - but if this is what you experienced, then i think i can get over my anxiety about that. Was the $500 your deductible? I'll find everything out on my next visit on the 27th and get it all in writing ahead of time....thanks again.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
