The chance of dying is about 1 in 2000 for band, 1 in 200 for gastric. I would ask the Dr. what exact complications he has had- slips, deaths, etc. From what you've said the Dr. was incompetent, but then again you did hear it on the news so there may be more to the story than was given. Is this Dr at a center of excellence?

yes he is and he has an outstanding reputation as a general surgeon and a specialist. he has his own clinic. this has really thrown a spanner in the works. i hate to think what he is going through right now. Hobart is a small city.

So there was a video taken of the surgery?? nothing was picked up then?? its just awful. so young, too. im feeling up in the air at the moment. This dr is an excellant dr. i dont know why this happened.

One was the hiatal hernia at the top and then an umbilical one close to belly button. I know one of my holes is through the belly button. Not sure where they put them for just lap band

I think I've had the hiatal for years just cause the acid reflux and then the umbilical was just I think guts coming through the muscle. I think there was a weak part in the muscle. And maybe it wasn't umbilical that's what I thought they said. But weak part in the muscle wall. How are you doing

Im really nervous about seeing the specialist tomorrow, and im still undecided on what procedure to push with him. there is so much to each procedure, to have the lapband or to have the sleeve. ive been through heaps of literature.. each has its advantages and disadvantages. reading the posts here has helped me a lot as well, i havent spoken to anyone who has had a sleeve done. i would love all of you to think positively for me for tomorrow... please?? reading and hearing about the lass who died through lapbanding has been like a punch in the stomach today. i need some positive thoughts and encouraging words come my way.... im all churned up inside at the moment.

If I had known about the unfortunate death I think personally I would have still been banded. I chose band for a bunch of reasons which I know you know all about but personally the adjustability was a big factor. And I know folks that have had gastric and re gained. But not sure about the sleeve. Also technology changes so quickly and what was used last year may have been tweaked already. Especially with the slipping etc. go with your knowledge it's not a heart or feeling. It's your life. It's scary and a huge responsibility but you are already taking charge of the rest of your life. What would you tell your daughter? If you have one you know. Just what's best with what knowledge you have. Sorry to be so long winded.

...thats o.k. i appreciate your input. it is scary and it is a huge responsibility... and i guess like everyone im wanting to and not wanting to.. but my history speaks for itself. i have no choice really. im thinking at this stage probably sleeve.. but its not for me to say. i have to see what the dr says about it tomorrow. im hoping that the terrible business with the young lady dying last year has set him back on his heels and he has rectified whatever it was . he is a very good surgeon.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
