Two Dogs dumped at my house...

Recommended Posts

I am so furious. I think someone dumped two dogs- a boxer and a really overweight golden retreiver/lab in my yard on Wednesday. I saw them when I got home from work on Wednesday but they ran away and I thought they were just farm dogs on a stroll. Last night when I got home one of them was peaking out from behind the shed. I followed him and found the other one laying in the weeds covered in snow. I thought she was dead because it was only 11 degrees yesterday. Last night it was -5 with a windchill of -30. If I hadn't found them last night they probably would have frozen to death.

People can be so cruel.

So now I have two more mouths to feed if no one claims them. I think I need a fundraiser.

Awww, a you're a new mommie! Grats!

I miss our retriever, best dog we ever had.

I have to confess, I was relieved (for you) when the title of this thread wasn't what I thought it was going to be. *snickers*

That's horrible. SOmetimes I feel like an alien because I just don't understand a human heart and mind capable of that.

It's against the law to dump an animal, so if you know who did it, you can report it to your local SPCA and police. It sounds like it's someone in the area who knows you would take them in.

God bless you for your kindness and compassion towards these poor dogs.

"Hear and Bless thy beasts and singing birds

and guard with tenderness

small things that have no words."

I don't understand how people can not take care of theeir animals...to me they are like my kids. I feel that once you get an animal you have it and take care of it till it passes away. Some people just are so cruel. Thank God that you found them and got them out of the cold. I would call the police station and see if anyone has reported them missing. Good luck.

Why not call the local news station, and the local police dept. You will get some donations while you keep the dogs, a local vet will prolly give a free checkup, and if someone is missing two wanderers they will call to claim. meanwhile people can contact the news station to give their names to adopt the doggers. We had a similar thing happen, and that is how we handled it. cost us a total of $10 in food since we got some donations, and we adopted out the dogger to a great family.

I am not an animal enthusiast like most, but I do believe it is cruel to dump animals.

If you have an animal, it is your duty to take care of them.

It was very kind of you to take them in!

Think of it this way... maybe they aren't strays, maybe they weren't dumped, maybe they were drawn to you in some way.

Boxer= strong on the outside, sometimes misunderstood as being a mean breed, many are scared of the breed in general and actually soft and warm on the inside being one of the most cuddly and needy emotional breeds

Overweight lab= chubby and fat on the outside, often overlooked as beautiful, no one taking the time to see that they are beautiful on the inside.

Maybe they NEED you to make them feel their full potentials. Maybe you need THEM to understand yours.

Strong believer in that everything happens for a reason.

So maybe it wasn't that they needed to find you but that you needed to find them?

Vooey & Sissy will send some treats if you PM them your address. I hate humans that hate animals. I mean HATE... so if any of you that are my friends secretly hate animals, you better stop now and send Megan some dog food!

I'm with you on that DeCarla. I just don't trust people who don't like animals.

Ever walk into a home that has no animals? it feels so empty.

Bless you for caring enough to take them in. I know alot of people wouldn't. I hope that they have either found a loving place with you or that you can find someone who can take then in and give them a loving home. You are a good soul.

Oh Megan - kind souls like yours are highly rewarded in Heaven. My mom had the animal thing where they just found her - she still takes them in - seriously she lives in a suburb but stray scraggly starving animals always found their way to our doors growing up. Thank you for doing the right thing when someone else obviously didn't!!! I don't understand how people can be so cruel to defenseless animals. I get sooo pissed off at my boyfriend when he swats the dog for pottying on the carpet - I know the dog needs to be disciplined but I guess I would just clean it up and move on. So are you bonding with them? Start the fundraiser and I'll donate some money!

Any news on the pups? How could someone do that!?!?! Are they OK from the cold? I think you should try to get some publicity to find the owners -- that is so mean! Thank God they found you and you are in a position to help them. Sorry for your extra work load though...............

This is why I love this board so much. There are such sweet people here! It feesl funny to hear people say things like "you're so caring to take them in" because it's just such a part of me to love and take care of animals. *I'm* the lucky one that they choose me to help them.

I have kept them inside (they are sleeping on the couch right now) so they are in good shape. I didn't find any frostbite so hopefully I got them in before that happened. The boxer seems to have a hard time peeing so off to the vet we go this morning.

A guy at work wants to adopt the boxer so I'm thinking that we will give that a trial run this week sometime. I hate to split them up but he's a lot more high strung than the other dogs so it might be good for him to have a home where the guy can stop in at lunch and let him out and play with him a little.

I haven't named them yet. Once I name 'em, their mine so I'm trying to hold off. They pretty much answer to "buddy" at the moment. :-)

I'll attach a couple of photos after I upload from my camera.

Thanks for all the kind words and offers of donations. I'll see how the vet goes today....I may just have to take you guys up on it!

Megan - please keep us updated - I came here specifically to see if you replied today. Since there is 3 of them I'd say its ok to let the higher strung one go to a good home where he can be played with a little more. Let us know if you decide to keep them. Bless you dear!

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
