Ok, I am drinking 2 Protein shakes a day, Breakfast and lunch. At about 60 grams total, should I be worried about adding more Protein or not? I keep reading about "upping the protein" to kick-start the weight-loss.

Thanks!

My surgeons instructions were to have a minimum of 65-85gm of Protein per day. I was also advised not to drink my calories as it won't satisfy me for very long.

I get all my Protein from food, I only used Protein Shakes for pre-op and the first week after surgery. I like the crunch of food and was told the same thing by my surgeon about drinking my calories.

When I started on this jurney pre-op, I had several months to start my diet. I used to never eat Breakfast, only a doughnut (or two) if someone brought them to work. LOL So, I got inot the habit of making a Protein Shake for breakfast, and then during my pre-op diet, I went to having a Protein shake for lunch too... which has just stuck since surgery (2 months+). I never go out to eat anymore, and that keeps me from eating fast food during the day. :-)

I'm with you Brenda. My surgeon told me the same. There is not normally any need to use Protein Shakes as it is easy to get sufficient Protein in from a normal diet. The only time I drink my breakfast is if I am in a rush to get out of the door, then I will grab an up and go as I can drink it and drive at the same time.

When I was first banded, the rule was Women 50-60G. Men 70-80G. of Protein a day.

He also told me not to drink to much Protein, because it can cause weight gain.

Now the numbers have changed.....

I still try to stay around what he suggested though, cause he could be right.

I also drink Protein Shakes. I haven't had any appetite since surgery and I have to keep track of food intake to make sure I eat enough each day. 69-80 grams Protein a day

My lowest was 60 grams a day but my doctor just upped me to minimum of 70. One thing is that I have added weight training to my workout and that fires up metabolism so the extra 10 grams helps feed your body what you need.

The only thing about upping Protein is that it comes with calories as well. So I do have one shake a day to get it all in because for about 200 calories, I can get in 32 grams of Protein. (26 grams of Protein powder, 8 grams from skim milk)

I have a Protein Shake almost every morning since I had surgery in August. I also asked my dr his thoughts. He said if its working they are a GREAT way to get your Protein in. Whatever works for you! If you have them and it keeps you full, stick with it! If your not full and snacking drop the shake. Good luck and drink up! :)

I remember hearing in the initial class with the dietician that we should be getting about 60-80 grams of Protein a day.

I aim for 80-90 per day. My nutritionist said stay above 65 to keep full. She didn't give a max limit.

I think for men it is closer to 70-80 g Protein. Remember, your body can't absorb more than about 25 g at a time, so trying to load more into a shake isn't going to help. I think shakes are fine as long as you're not going over calories because of them. I know a lot of people do them in the morning as they're tighter and/or just don't have time for eggs or whatever.

So, I estimate that I am at about 1,000-1,200 Calories a day. The shakes are about 300 each... and the dinner meal accounts for about 400-600 calories.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
