Is It Normal Not To Have A Bm For The First Week After Lap Band Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I am on day 6 of my band and have not had a bowel movement. i know its not the best topic but I was just wondering if anyone else had the same issue. I feel great and have had an easy time of things except a little depression watching everyone around me eat all my favorite foods. I see the Dr. for my post op on Thursday, but just wondering if I should take something. My husband said since I am not eating anything solid than there is nothing to come out, but I wonder. Thanks for any suggestions.

I am on Day 5 since the lapband surgery and I finally "went" today. It felt great and I literally lost 1 pound according to my scale :). I called the docs office because i was concerned about this since I hadnt had one in 7 days (presurgery). They told me its normal and that I could take many of the popular stool softeners, miralox and things like that. I didnt even need to go that route though because it came on its own. I would suggest calling your own docs office to get the okay from them...Good Luck

This is pratically normal for many types of surgery. I was banded on 12/15/11. I had BM on post-op day 4 , 9, 11 and still waiting to be regular, lol

Also allot of times it's Water in, and Water out.

So if that happens,,, don't be shocked. It's normal.

Happy New Year !

I was banded on December 2 and have not been regular since. I finally took some Miralox on Sunday because it just wasn't normal for me. I have been regular daily.

It took me a little over a week to have a BM, and then it was several days between. Even now, several months later, I can go a few days between.

I didn't have a bowel movement for over a week after banding. And then it was only every few days. (Prior to banding, I could pretty much set my clock to my daily BMs!) It took a while, but 3 or so months later, things are settling into more of a routine again.

I was banded at the end of August and I still don't have a regular BM. Just be careful, during the first couple weeks after I was banded, I got severely constipated and ended up in the ER. Very embarrassing. Make sure you push your fluids and Miralax could be your best friend. I started taking a Fiber supplement and I still do.

LOL Okay, I know this topic is gross but I'd like to thank the OP for bringing it up...I haven't been banded yet and these types of questions really help those of us who are coming in behind you in this process.

Congrats to all of you on the great output. :-)

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
