The Gallblader hurts quite a bit.

Call your surgeon, and have him phone in some type of liquid pain Medication.

I had Percocet, and it helped quite a bit.

Hope you get to feeling better.

Lisa.

Yea I would call your Dr and get the liquid med. I think its Hydrocodone and it really takes the edge off and lets me sleep. I was in crazy pain from sitting up, walking and forget coughing... I am now feeling better but tried to go visit my dad today and had to go home. I think my mind was bigger than my pain. Anway, let me know if you need anything. I am really loving this site because we are all going thru this together and alot of people are way further than us. Have a great weekend!

Hello My October Bandsters!!! So, I had surgery this pastFriday Oct 14th… Surgery was a success. My surgeon told my family Idid a great job shrinking my liver. I was at the hospital a total of 5.5hrs.The actual surgery was only 1hr. I have been pretty good pain wise. The gas issomething else but walking really does help a lot. I had to stop taking the liquid narcotics becauseI had an allergic reaction to the meds. I was itching all over, everywhere… andwhen I say everywhere, I mean everywhere (lol)… I had nausea only on the veryfirst night. I don’t really have a large appetite but I have been doing a halfof Jell-O, a Popsicle, and ½ cup of Soup daily, some Gatorade for dehydration, and definitely getting enough Water intake. I’m kind of glad that my doctor allowscreamy Soups as well because the broth is just plain nasty. So far I am happywith my decision. I will start to add my Protein Shakes & vitaminstomorrow. I don’t have a scale, so I wontknow how I’m doing weight wise until my post-op appt this coming Friday. I hopeeveryone is doing great. I pray for a successful surgery and recovery for myentire fellow Bandsters (pre-op & post-op). Good Luck and I’ll keep everyone posted.

I went walking at a couple of stores today with hubby and tried to get some fresh air and walk away some of the gas but I think i totally overdid it. I am still very uncomfortable and getting frustrated, but everyday is a little better so i will just look forward to tomorrow. I think I have tried everything that I have read on here to help the gas and would LOVE to shock my hubby with some great burps or toots but it just doesnt want to leave! I kinda feel like i have a full term pregnancy and a baby on crack inside of me! Is it tomorrow yet????

Back to work today! Am worried about being to keep up with the required diet plan while at my desk, but also think I tended to get bored at home so wanted to eat, even though I wasn't truly hungry. One thing the doctor was right about - am definitely NOT hungry in the mornings. It is all I can do to keep down a Protein Shake before noon. Am still "brain hungry" in the evenings, though.

Gas pains are pretty much gone, still get a few after I eat. Mushies are so much better than I thought they ever could be - who knew that I liked oatmeal and yogurt?? (Never used to like it!) Am looking forward to regular food starting Oct. 24, just for the variety.

Reading the postings from those banded the last couple of days, I want to tell you - it DOES get better! The "liquid in, liquid out" was horrible, but does goes away. If not stated on your diet, ask your doctor if you can have yogurt - it really does help that.

Ticker is messed up so just adding a note to signature to keep track - 15 so far, and am pretty sure it will be more when I weigh in tomorrow. :)

Hi Q-tee, I'm glad you're doing well. It looks like you're off to good start, but brace yourself cuz it only gets better. Don't worry about having a scale right away so when you do weigh in it'll be a pleasant surprise. I'm really looking to get back on track.

I am looking forward to some catfish and squash! :) Putting the fork down will be easy, chewing, not so much as I have noticed I tend to swallow while I chew.

Hello My October Bandsters!!!

Just wanted to share a victory with you all... Well I met my 1st goal... So about 3 wks I turned on my Wii game n went thru my past weigh-ins on Wii Fit. I was so shocked when I discovered that I was 42lbs lighter back in February 2011. blink.gif It sometimes seems so unrealistic that we can gain weight that fast. Well, on that same day 3wks ago when I wanted to see how much I had gained... so stepped on the Wii Fit Board & my heart sank when I was told I was over the weight limit for the Wii Board (330lbs maximum weight) & the computer asked me to step off the board. ohmy.gif

Well, I'm down 13.9lbs n the Wii Board is No Longer Rejecting Me!!! So excited!!! Might not seem like much but to me it was the best thing ever!!! So overly excited to finally be moving forward with-in my Journey #ThisIsOnlyTheBeginning Banane40.gif

Hi,

I can completely sympathize with yourstruggle with drinking Water. I used to be a big Water drinker (I couldeasily drink 12-16oz of water in several gulps when thirsty) but drinking 12oztakes time now. Even an average gulp gives me terrible burps for 10minafterwards. Last night I was feeling dehydrated so I drunk 2x 12ozglasses of water between 9-11pm. I felt so gassy and burpy I resorted towalking in circles around my apartment for 15 min while rubbing my belly to getbetter. It might be early days for both of us (I got banded on Sat, Oct15) so we are probably going through adjustment phase. Have you triedjust sipping water? Does it help? I'm trying that trick today - gassiness and burping as not as bad butI still feel thirsty, probably old habits. Drinking Muscle Milk Light (Protein shake) definitely felt more comfortable then the other shakes. It kept me full for longer as well. Let me know if you learn anynew ways to get the right water intake without pain and gas discomfort.

How long does it take for the gas to leavethe body? Or better said, how longit takes for this gas to stop hurting this much?

Good luck….

I’d like to join with my thanks to everybodycontributing to this site. It’sproving to be an enormous moral support to me. (I got banded on Oct 15). You are right – since I discovered ityesterday I check it like my Facebook account. I feels very reassuring and calming to me to know that thereare all these wonderful people out there going through the same thing I’m goingthrough and providing honest feedback and detailed advice on all these issueswe are experiencing. Without you Iwould have no clue where to turn for advice (assuming I would even feel comfortabletalking about it).

Million thanksto the site creator and everyone contributing to it…

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
