I just finished my 3 months of dieting, nutritionist, pysch evaluation, and my surgeon office just submitted my paperwork. Anyone know approximately how long it takes for approval from Aetna? I'm hoping to have the surgery by the end of October.

I had Aetna when I had my surgery. My first doctors appointment was in Sept and I had my surgery in Dec of 2010. I don't remember exactly how long it took to get approved, but it was quick. The office staff told me Aetna was one of the easiest and quickest at approving patients.

I have Aetna. My initial appointments started the beginning of June 2011. My claim was sent to them on September 9 and was approved on September 14. My surgery is October 18th.

Tomorrow starts my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. You'll hear something soon!

OMG! I have Aetna and I had my first visit to the surgeon like 2 weeks ago. While I wasnt happy with the meeting if I do decide to go with him, he did say he could do my surgery by Jan 2012. hearing how quickly you all got approved adds up with the timeline he gave so i feel better. Good luck all!

I have Aetna EPO. It took about 5 days and that was because they needed more info from the doctor. I would have had an answer in 2 days if they didn't need this info! Good luck to you!

I will definitely let you know once I am approved, keeping my fingers crossed it will be by next week. Getting all the pre-op lab work done this week in anticipation for the approval.

I have Aetna *** I started my appointments in June and paperwork was sent August 1 and I was approved by August 6. I had to postpone due to a new job and reschedule for Christmas break Decemeber 21st. It has to be resubmitted in November for approval but I have no worries, Aetna has been great.

:(Ok now the stress has begun. I called Aetna to check on my approval that was submitted last week and they informed me that they have not yet received my clinical records!!!! Now they have to be resubmitted everything, the good thing living in the state of Washington they have a two day turn around time for surgery approvals. So keeping my fingers crossed I will know something by next Monday..

I really love this posting, I read another one about Aetna here and it kind of brought me down. A lot of problems with the 2 yr weight loss history. Have any of you had that problem. I am a little concernd because I havent been with my PCP for 2 years and we never really dicussed weight loss. Everything I've done, was done on my own. But you guys keep me smiling and thinking positive

We are under open enrollment for insurance and Im thinking of switching to Aetna just for this reason alone. I dont even know where to start with the questions I have about Aetna and how much they pay etc. Ive been doing a little reading and it looks like they pay about 90%. Im wondering if I go through the 3 months of physician supervised diet...starting now...(I have HAP now) and switch to Aetna during my open enrollment, if they will go back 3 months..or if they will make me start all over starting Jan 1st to get the surgery.

I hv aetna too, and I hv the same dilemma, I hv been with my pcp along time but my bmi hasn't been exactly over 40 the whole time, close to it, so fingers r crossed. As far as how much aetna pays it depends what kind of aetna plan u hv bc they aren't the same, my plan covers 100%

I have Aetna as my primary insurance and I was denied because I couldn't show 2 years of weight history. So I'm having to use my secondary which was BCBS of IL.

What do they mean by 2 years of weight history? Does that mean like being on WW for 2 years..or that you just have been trying for 2 years.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
