how can I tell when I am full??

Ok I had another fill last Thursday and now at 6.5 cc. I am confused to when am I full, I think I am eating past the point of being full. I havent gotten sick yet, but it kind of feels like I have something stuck for a few min. then it goes away. How do I know when I am full, any kind of input would be helpful.

eat until you are satisfied, not full as then in 20 minutes you are very full. i know it is hard to judge and it will get easier as you get used to the band. just measure out some food, i eat about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of food. i am never hungry in the mornings so i drink a protein drink each morning to make sure i get my protein grams in. some days i am hungrier, some days less. i hope this helps.

it depends on the person,as for myself,my nose starts running when i am full

That's a good question! I just simply feel like I can't eat anymore or I don't want to risk PBing. It's not the kind of full you get when you eat too much, but more like if I eat anymore it might not be so good. I am getting better at it-because before I would keep eating and then spend the night PBing and just feeling terrible. Now I try to stop before it gets to that point.

Some classic signs are:

runny nose (had to believe but this actually does happen)

hiccup

a gruggling sound

simply not being ready to take another bite

I am much more tuned in to my body's signs-not to say I don't still push it and suffer the consequences. It really critical that I don't skip meals and try to have a small snack between meals. If I do skip then I am hungry and tend to either eat too much or too fast (not chew enough) and then I am not feeling too good.

It is not about being full anymore. Its about being satisfied. You are not supposed to eat until you are full. Set your alarm on your cell phone for 20 minutes and after that stop eating. You do not want to be full anymore.............

I am now having the problem of not knowing when I am satisfied. I mentioned this in another forum but saw that this is where I needed to post. I don't ever get a full or satisfied feeling. My first and only clue is I can't swallow....at that point it is already to late. I immediately stop and then I get the foaming and sharp heart attack type feeling for the next few hours. I haven't even had a fill yet. I even having trouble now swallowing my medication and my dr said I could cut it in half but no smaller and no crushing it. I am so uncomfortable after taking them everyday and that is the beginning of not wanting to any solids the rest of the day. I want to start being able to have this be a normal part of my life and stop being a fear of eating. I am very excited to get to my sweet spot and know what that is like, it must be a great feeling. Not sure why I am having this problem now I was fine with solids for a week or two then this started. Any ideas?

U need to call your Dr. right away. U may be too tight, esp if u having trouble with solid foods. Please call your Dr.

You might try going back to liquids for a day or two.

Maybe you've irritated your stoma, and need to let

it heal for a bit.

Thanks I was thinking maybe I could be swollen too from the vomiting. Liquids for the weekend ...great idea. Time to rest my band !

When I was schedule for my first, had to get 3 cc's taken out because I wasn't able to eat or drink without feeling sick. Should be able to eat solids without difficulty. If it is not your Dr telling u to do liquids for 2 days, then I would say call them for advisement.

Many people get a small fill 1-2cc's in the operating room and the surgeon fails to mention it until your first fill appointment. You might want to call your doctor to see if they put a fill in during surgery.

I am so glad that I clicked on this post. I was going to post a question regarding the runny nose issue, but I thought everyone would think I was CRAZY. It is so good to know I am not the only one!!!

I asked my Dr. the day I went to the Nutritionist (same office) and there is nothing in it. I had chicken today and NO pain ! Took me for ever to eat it but it worked.

Funny this post appeared. I was thinking about this all day and came up with some interesting conclusions.

There are 2 very different things going on when you have the proper amount of restriction - "Green Zone"

First, I came to the realization that I am feeling full / satisfied 24 hrs a day. I really don't feel like eating all that much. food does not interest me like it used to do.

The band is doing it's job and telling my brain I'm Full. (I think)

It's very hard to explain because it is not the type of full feeling one would expect, but the mental aspect is there just the same if you calm down and listen to it.

And yet, I still eat. Why? Is it because I have been programmed my whole life that I MUST eat 3 squares a day, and it's dinner time and I must eat? Or is it something deeper, in spite of my brain

telling me I'm satisfied, my body is screaming somewhere deep down inside for needed nutrition? Contrary to what my brain / senses feel?

After having only my Protein shake for Breakfast, I have on a few occasions, while out doing some day long activities, not eaten anything else for the whole day and was not bothered by it at all! Believe me that would never, and could not happen 9 months ago.

Today I had lunch in the cafeteria at the hospital I was working at and had a taco salad bowl. I sat there and picked at it like a child not being excused from the table until he finishes his peas.

I was just not interested, even though the only other thing I ate was my shake at 5:30am . I wasn't hungry and yet I went to the cafeteria just the same.

Then there is the mental hunger. You see a large piece of chocolate cake and you just have to have it even though you really don't.

But that's when the tight band restriction saves me. Two bites at most and the warning signals go up and I'm finished.

I'm learning more and more living with the band every day and I have to pay more attention to what is truly happening.
