Feeling generally crappy banded on Monday

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 3. I think the 3 day clear liquid diet got to me. I have a headache and am sooo sleepy. Pain is fine. Just uncomfortable. I'm trying to stay up and walk around but honestly my bed looks really good right now. I thought since I started carnation instant breakfasts today ( I've had 2.5) I would start feeling human again. I'm reading about how everyone is grocery shopping or going for walks on day 3. Am I making it worse by being a hermit???

I think i went to the store either day 3 or 4 with DH driving and for 1 item. It was horrible. Horrible. I got so car sick. It was totally not even worth it. Just walk around your house and keep up your fluids. I am on day 7 and feel sooo much better. Just be patient. It will get better.

i went out day 6 and it was interesting. I was sweating and light-headed but i must say it felt good to get out and remember the real world.

I went back to work day 4 for a few hours because I needed to get out of the house. Dont push yourself too much but the more you move around the quicker you will start healing. I still have some pain but not too bad.. Go for short walks or walk around your house. Try to do a little more everyday if you can :) Keep your head up it will get better!

I'm going to give you a piece of advice that was given to me when I was first banded...

STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHER PEOPLE!!!

Everyone has their own journey. Different people have different surgical experiences, different pain threshholds, different post op diets so just do what you can do and don't worry about it. I was back at work on the Monday following my surgery on Thursday but I have a friend who had the same surgeon and was banded the same week I was banded who took 2 weeks off of work and needed all 14 days to start feeling better.

The same goes for your weight loss...I know it's hard but don't compare yourself to other people. Everyone loses weight at a different rate. At any point in time, you will be able to find people who have lost a lot more than you have, people who have lost about the same as you have and people who are losing slower than you are. Follow the rules you surgeon gives you and make the journey your own...if something isn't working for you, don't be afraid to switch things up.

Good luck to you and I hope you start feeling better soon. :)

Hi Vicky,

I wanted to say that I found your advice inspirational. I get banded this Friday and I only had to do three days of pre-op diet, but it is really getting to me. you are so right in saying that everyones journey is different. I have owned mine and I am looking forward to being banded. I like at this liquid diet as the hurdle to cross before I start a new life. Be blessed and thanks for sharing.

Everyone is different, and there is no answer for everyone. I was banded on Monday and have some discomfort but not what I would call true pain. I got out of the house today for a few hours and think I may have been better if I would have just stayed home. The liquid diet is what's getting to me right now. I just want to chew up some meat...anything but a protien shake or clear liquid. My doctor's office kept stating to me it is so important to get enough rest and heal (liquids only) and then I can start the weight loss and eating ventures.

Getting out of the house daily was a thing I wanted to do.... Gve me something to look forward to. No matter how bad I felt I did it. Do what you feel like doing- no more! You know you so do what you can. Set goals and challenge yourself a bit- but most mportant is to rest and recover! It gets better- I promise (banded 9/22).

When I had my surgery, my surgeon made me stay one night in the hospital. So when I was released I went to the store that evening. I was also tired for the first week. I went to a concert on day 5. I really didn't want to go, but I had the tickets before I started my journey and paid over 50 per ticket and wasn't not going to go. In fact I ran into my surgeon at the casino where the concert was and he had told my husband he was happy to see I was out and about but did say I looked very tired. It will pass and you will have more energy. But everyone is right, don't compare yourself to everyone else, your body will tell you when you are ready. I know its hard not to, and I do the same, but just remember you are one of a kind and there is no one who is just like you. Your recuperation will not be the same as someone else either. The best of luck to you and keep your chin up!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
