Just had to give all of you a chuckle....

I went to the gym yesterday and wanted to weigh myself on the scale that is like the ones in a doctor's office. I ensured it was balanced before I began and stepped on it. I started at 300 mark and that was obviously too heavy. Woohoo! I'm under 300. So, I slid the weight to 250 and started moving the smaller marker up.....I got to 298....299...and it showed me too light. So, I've concluded that I don't weigh anything. LOL (actually my weight is like 299.2 and the scale just won't register it until I firmly get under 300) But, it gave me a laugh.

Have a good day everyone. I'm off to the gym.

Welcome back Jason! Good for you to come back and face your life and what you need to do to get back on track. As far as diet, your surgeon should have a whole booklet or atleast a hand out on foods at various stages. I'm only 5 days out and on full liquids. I think oatmeal and cream of wheat is a mushie. There is a great book called " eating well after weight loss surgery" by Patti Levine and Michele Bontempo-Saray. I look forward to trying out their recipes as I venture in to my new way of eating to live. I wish you the best. Your 3 year old needs his/her daddy!

Well I must be healing. I'm hungry late afternoon and evening. I don't feel as full on the same amount of food as last week. I'm looking forward to a fill next week!

Itching- I did have a few miserable days. I was told to put an emollient cream or Vaseline on to help. I had an allergic reaction to a med, so I was taking benedryl. I kept taking it at night to control itching do I could sleep. Worth considering for those who are in the itch cycle.

My diet has not changed. For Snacks I've had a couple sponns of hummus, all by itself. And some PB2. PB2 is a powdered peanut butter- only available online- with very low fat and low calories. I mix 2T of powder with 1T of Water and have a tasty 45 calorie snack. It would be better on crackers but that's not on my diet yet.

I think my scale is broken- seriously. There is too much variance- I got on and it liked like I lost 15 pounds. Got off. Got on again and I had gained a pound. I tried adjusting the zeroing dial and it was very hard to move. So I ordered a scale from Amazon that had best rating from Good Housekeeping and haven't been on the scale for a week. Either a big surprise or a big disappointment await me!

I read on another lapband site that the best way to deal with the itching is to use ice. It supposedly worked right away and kept the itching at bay for quite awhile.

I just came from Ruby Tuesdays. I asked for the children's menu (my surgeon's office gives you a wallet card stating you've had bariatric surgery and need to order from the children's menu). It was perfect. I had a very small grilled chicken breast and spaghetti squash. It is served on a smaller plate so you look like you're getting a plate full of food. It was tasty and healthy. My son was with me and was so supportive. Then off to the gym to work it off. A great day.

They have that PB2 at our commissary on base! I have wondered what it taste like, I may have to try it now that I know someone that has. I love peanut butter! Keeping my fingers crossed for a big surprise when you get your new scale :)

You should not be depressed about it because you are doing something about it! You should be proud of yourself for taking care of yourself now and look at your previous post. That had to take so much self restraint to not order a burger or something else they have. You should be proud. Plus, we all loose at different rates so you could still loose yours faster than someone that has 60 to lose. I have about 60 to lose to goal but I have only lost 3 lbs in the last 3 weeks so it is moving slower for me. Just keep your head up!

Thank you. I just didn't know you could get this procedure if you didn't have 100+ lbs to lose.

Hi Janice!

I'm hearing that you only have to be #50 overweight to have the lapband now, but it probably depends on the insurance company. Hey, almost 21 lbs is not bad...you can check a bunch of posts on this site and see that others haven't loss nearly that much. Just remember, everyone is different and you should be proud of yourself. Aren't you glad the surgery is over with and you don't have to go the wondering what it's going to be like anymore?

Kathy

Thank you. I just didn't know you could get this procedure if you didn't have 100+ lbs to lose.

I have been struggling to loose eighty plus pounds for the last five years and ended up dropping ten pounds but would constantly gain it back, I was unhappy with myself because my back hurt and would get winded. So I may not have a 100 plus pounds to loose but I still seeked help to get my life in control. I frequent here because we were all banded the same month but now feel sad after reading the posts this p.m, I am still obese today, just remember we are all trying to gain control of our lives and should just be positive and not make others feel bad in order to uplift others. Is it wrong that I decided to take control of my life before it worsened? Whether someone has 50 or 350 pounds to loose they are in the same journey for the betterment of tbeir health. I think it may be best if I limit my postings to the low bmi board. Good luck to all. I wish you the best. Peace and blessings.

I wasn't trying to make anyone feel bad. I was down on myself. My reference to the 100 lbs was what I had been told years ago when I first looked into the surgery. I'm sorry if something I wrote upset you. I never intended to hurt anyone.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
