Hi guys,

So I was banded with plication on the aug 15, 2011 and yesterday my nutritionist gave me the green light on soft foods after a flawless 14 days of liquid diet. All I have to say is WOW. This morning I managed to eat a whole large scrambled egg and 2 oz of greek yogurt. I am full from this. And I mean full. Its crazy. Before Id eat 3 scrambled eggs a piece of toast and 2-3 strips of bacon. I was only getting 500ish calories a day on the liquid diet and I actually wasnt losing weight for the past 4 days. My nutritionist wanted me to up my calories because she said I probably wasnt getting enough for weight loss because my body was in super efficient mode since the drastic drop in caloric intake. Its crazy that ones body will hold on for dear life for that long and not let go of any weight. No wonder people get so discouraged and fall off the wagon so often. So this morning I woke up and I was the same weight AGAIN! What the heck? Its really amazing how long the body will hold on for dear life to the weight. Funny thing is this time around I cant even fall off the wagon due to the fact I get full on 4oz of food lol. I love it and I know my body will eventually have to let go of the weight and start burning the fat storage. Also I have been working out on the stairmaster again since last week. I started at 15 mins and I am up to 30 mins already 2 weeks post op. I think I will bump to 40 today actually. Thats how good I feel! Really glad I did this. :) Hope everyone else is doing well. Dont get discouraged at plateaus. Just gotta keep pushing through!

I am 4 months out and am still amazed at how little i eat compared to before. i went out to eat last night with my youngest son and we ate mexican food. i ate half a chicken enchilada, some rice and Beans and was full. it is great huh. took the rest home, will be eating on that for days. LOL! i have finally learned to cook less now, so we don't have tons of left overs like before. you are doing good, don't get impatient because you did not lose today. it will happen. your body is getting adjusted to eating soft foods now instead of the liquids. it was probaly absorbing everything you were taking in. :) it will get better. just keep at it :)

I know that about 3-4 weeks after surgery I had a 2.5 week plateau. I was only eating about 700-800 cals a day. I upped it to 1000-1200 and immediately started losing weight again. I lost 60 pounds in 3 months and I am on another plateau. I know that I am eating the right amount of food and doing the right things and that my body will catch up again. But darn it is frustrating! I loved dropping 2 pounds every 3-4 days. I know that pace of weight loss is not realistic so 1-2 pounds it what I am aiming for. I just need the weight loss to start up again!

It has been such an emotional help for me to read posts like these. I went from 256 to 232 in my two week pre op and two week post op.. I have now been stuck for 2.5 weeks. I am exercising, drinking my Water and eating really well. I am going to up my calories as I have been hanging at 850-950. I know that it will come off and I plan on just staying the course.

Again, it is just so nice to hear other stories on here to encourage me to keep it up! Good Luck to everyone!!

I am in the same boat. I have lost 30 lbs but have been stuck here for about 2 weeks. My problem is my caloric intake. I don't eat as much as I should, it's hard sometimes. But i guess all we can do is take one day at a time. Hang in there!

It's been two yrs since my surgery and although I lost only 30lbs, I've gained 20 back. I've given up because evidently this is not going to work for me. I was told I should feel full with 1 to 1/2 cup of food and that has never happened even at full fill. I'm drinking the Protein, but I have to admit I am very discouraged and then that makes me more prone to eat what I shouldn't. IF I could have seen some promised results without have to work like a dog to get those few pounds off, I think I would have felt better about it. I can't exercise due to dibilitating arthritis, but looks like consuming 800 calories or less would have done something! And then add that it cost WAY more than I was promised because the hospital billed the insurance company wrong. Instead of owing $2000, I ended up owing $7000.... which I don't have. It's just a very depressing situation.

I felt like a million bucks the first 6 months, and then it's been down hill from there. I know I probably need couseling to help me sort this out, but with that whopping bill looking me in the face, there's no way I could afford to go to counseling.

I'm glad you are having better results. I just wish I had been told that this doesn't work for some people so I wouldn't have gotten my hopes up so high.

If you are at full fill and have no restriction something might be wrong. Sorry to hear you are having all this trouble :( I hope you can get back on track somehow. Maybe see your doc to make sure nothing is wrong?

I am so sorry that things are working out for you like you had hoped. Did you have the hospital resubmit to the insurance? they should have, even when they bill wrong, they should have corrected it. what was your insurance supposed to pay? Sometimes you have to get ugly with these insurance companies and hospitals.

i do hope things work out for you. Can you go back to your doctor, sounds like you do not have a full fill if you are able to eat more than 1 1/2 cups of food at a time. i have 9cc in my 14cc band and i am in my green zone, but everyone is different.

I still have trouble eating anything but small bites, so I assume it's still in the right place. Maybe I don't know what full is?! :>) But if I eat 1 cup or even 1.5 cups of food, in an hour, my stomach is growling and making noises like a 747 landing and I "feel" hungry. I upped my Protein to 5 servings a day and that helps, but it just keeps me at my present weight and I don't lose anything. The only way I lose is if I eat maybe 300 calories and 5 Protein drinks. I'll have to admit however that I get so tired of staying in the bathroom that I slack off on the drinks/water. I might as well move my furniture, computer, and anythng else in there.

Some days I eat basically nothing because it won't go down. Yesterday I tried to eat a 1/2 cup of oatmeal and got 3 or 4 bites down and had to stop. Today, I ate the whole thing with no problems whatsoever. I'm thinking reflux is having a effect on this since I had it really bad before surgery.

I just don't see any reason to go back to the doc. He says the same thing. This surgery doesn't work on grazers. Seems like he's calling me a cow. LOL I've stopped the 'between meals snacks', but still lose nothing so I get discouraged. One thing for sure, I've realized that I have more depression problems than I had originally thought or either this is spiking them. I think it was because I had come to terms with being housebound (mostly because of arthritis and FMS) and had fashioned my life out around it. When I became semi mobile, it gave me hope and then I wasn't satisfied with just staying here and doing my crafts etc.

I guess all this self analyzing is boring the be-jeepers out of everyone so I'm going to shut up. :>) I lost 60lbs by myself before I ever had this surgery so I'm going to have to get back in that frame of mind and stop feeling sorry for myself and stop obsessing about the money I wasted when we needed it so badly for other things. All in all, I feel guilty.

Ok, as my sister says.... ONWARD! :>) Plan B has now been put into motion. Maybe I just needed someone to talk to about it.

If you are at full fill and have no restriction something might be wrong. Sorry to hear you are having all this trouble :( I hope you can get back on track somehow. Maybe see your doc to make sure nothing is wrong?

Oh we did fight with the hospital to bill the correct amount. For over a year we owed $82,000!!! Yea, that's 3 zeros on there. They reduced it for $5000 and then we owe 2 anethesiologists $2000. One to put me out and one to stand there and watch me. But it's just the principle of the thing, the hospital told me up front I would owe $2000. My deductible is $2000 (which I had already paid) then, but now I would owe it again to have the port redone.

I don't know what cc band I have but he said it's the large band. ??? Why a large one? I keep asking myself. At full fill, it's still not keeping me from eating too much.

I'll go back when I think I can talk to them and not cry. :>))))

Man I hope things get better for you. Sometimes the body will hold on for a long time before it lets the weight go. Dont get discouraged when you go a whole week eating 800 to 900 calories. It will eventually come off. It has to. Just gotta be patient. Also you need to have a doctor that cares and wants to work with you. I feel this is very important. If you dont like your current doc maybe find another one? This could be a new start for you with a doctor that actually listens!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
