So I obviously didnt read my docs pre op diet instructions all the way! He wants 2 Protein Drinks a day and 3rd meal is Soup. Then there is a small list of drinks and Jello etc that I can have. So I bought a few differnt drinks to try out and see what I liked. I bought Boost, Slim Fast, and Ensure. So at the bottom of the page it said that the drinks need to be 200 cal or less, 20 of Protein and less than 10 caRbs... None of my drinks fit that description. Anyone got one out there that falls into that catagory???? Thanks!

Muscle Milk Light has 150 cals and 20 grams of protein. They are pretty filling acutally.

Oooh, you get mushies Thursday? I am jealous - my doctor's program calls for 2 weeks of liquids post-OP. I don't mind it so much, and I am filling up just fine, but I am looking forward to more variety.

I think I am going to make a big pot of split pea Soup today, and then freeze a bunch of single servings in my little tupperware bowls. I love split pea soup... mmmmm. That should help get me through the next 10 days. :)

Yep! Can't wait for the mushies! Woot. That sounds so good to me! oatmeal, bananas, oh, so many choices! I have been living on popsicles, Jello and my favorite that is a real filler has been cream of chicken and mushroom soup. CANT WAIT!:P

My favorite's are muscle milk LIGHT and the bottled Isopure. The bottled Isopure tastes sort of like uncarbonated soda so if you aren't into the shakes or get tired of them it is good to throw those in the mix AND they are 40 grams of protein with zero carbs. Muscle milk light tastes just like regular chocolate milk. The low carb EAS are good too.

Other than the gas, any other problems? Are you happy so far with the choice?

Hello, 3rd day after surgery. Feeling ok. Gass pains are still there. As much as I have been burping, you think it would be gone by now. Looking forward to hearing all of your progress. :)

I did that and you know what - each time I tried something happened that spoiled it! I finally gave up and go down to business on the day!

I get banded 9/21....start my liquid diet on Monday. I have a family BBQ on Sunday so my hope is that I can enjoy a last day of 'full food' before this begins. It is sort of odd and maybe not the wisest thing, but I have been having little 'favorites' this week that I know I can't or shouldn't have after surgery. Has anyone else done this???

I'm quite excited to get started...I got remarried on the 1st of this year (1-1-11) and we are celebrating with a renewal/reception in November so I'm hoping I will have lost a good amount and feel more comfortable at my party! :)

Looking so forward to getting to know more people who are on this same track!

Go September Bandies!!!

Surgery: September 19

Pre-op diet Day 1!

The insurance company approved my surgery and I am no longer "penciled in". I will have the Lap-Band surgery on Monday, September 19. Today I started the two week pre-op diet: two Protein shakes, two very small Snacks and a small dinner for about 1,000 calories a day. Oh my.

I didn't go "all out" this past weekend, but I did have some special meals with special people and I did ask for a few chocolates from my husband's secret stash, so I guess I splurged a little.

So I begin my journey to a smaller me. And better health. And to a more active lifestyle. Whew!

I feel prepared, educated about the procedure and life after as a "banded" person. This two weeks will be the hardest as I don't have the band, but I have to eat like I do. I have to say NO to the desire to eat and I have to live through any emotions of life without turning to food. Should be a good training run, I'm thinking.

I can only do this with prayer and patience. From me and from you. The Lord will be my strength and I will walk through this change with Him at my side. Future, here I come!

You will do great! The first few days were rough and want to still cook 'normal' for my family so some of the food just looks so good I end up taking my Protein drinks upstairs and drinking them in a nice bath, lol. I did learn that I do better eating my meal late afternoon instead of when my family eats because then when I cook I want to just pick at the food while I cook. It is a lot easier to cook while I am not hungry. Those are a couple tips that have worked for me. I am being banded Monday and I can't wait to get on with the process :). Good luck!

I really feel for those of you who have families to cook for! I just got back from vacation and sat down at the table with my Protein shake at every meal, while watching everyone else pig out!! They had most of my favorites, and I'm proud to say that I did what I had to do, and stuck with my Protein shakes and broth. Now that I'm through the vacation - I feel a real sense of accomplishment - but it was hard. Anyway, my one firm rule was that I could not be in the kitchen with food. When they were cooking, I went outside so I did not have to smell it because it made me nuts. Actually having to prepare the food would be a killer for me!! I'm on day 12 of 21 for my preop diet, and it is getting easier. I'm excited - 9 days till Band day!!

I sooo agree with this. It is one time that I am thankful to be single! My pantry and refrigerator have been transformed! I am also "eating" my one meal a day while at work. No one knows I am getting banded except one person. So I just order my Soup at where ever we decide to eat. No one has seemed to notice so far! But having control over my enviroment has helped a lot!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
