Help ME DANCE!!!

Recommended Posts

OK, I need some help here!!!

I have always loved to watch those people that can dance so beautifully it looks like they are floating... With my current weight loss, my confidence is rising and my hubby's friends have been wanting to go dancing. I have NO idea how or what to do and I feel like a HUGE clown when I do try to dance.

Is there any such thing as a video that could teach me a little so I won't look like a complete idiot.

I am talking about the 2-Step or whatever... I Just need HELP!!!

THANKS!

Heather - great minds think alike!

I recently inquired about private instructions here in my area.... just me and hubby would be there. I dont think Mike (my DH) would do a video at home. Kids wanting to "help", phone ringing, clothes to put to dry, dinner waiting to be made, etc.... you know! Over in my neck of the woods, our instructor is charging $25 a lesson, and based on US, we determine how many lessons we need. Some need 2 lessons and have enough to make it happen, others like the challenge and continue on to competitions. Me and Mike just want to learn enough to have fun on the weekends.

I lOvE to dance. Great excercise too! Let me know what you find.

here in the dfw metroplex, there is lots and lots of classes at local nightclubs. some for free, some like $10. there are also classes by different groups, like $29 for 3 weeks, etc. go to yahoo groups, see if there are local 'dance' announcement or groups there. i found lots in dfw. also, just try a search for 'dance lessons houston' or any variation thereof.. just some things i did to find local classes in my area.. :( Have fun!

check out your local community colege or your parks and rec department. Ballroom dancing is so much fun. Okay, any kind of dancing is so much fun.

Some of the country bars in Houston have days during the week where they have 2-step and line-dance lessons. You should call up a few and check it out. I know how you feel. My husband likes to 2-step (not fast dance) and I used to when I was around 19-20 but actually I have evolved and can hardly tolerate country music and for the pass 2 months we have been going to a bar in Webster called Big Texas and the more I drink the happier I am and I start to not pay attention to the music! :heh: I am more of a rocker now listening to bands like Seether, Evanesence and more adult alternative rock. Yeah I still like some of the older country from the early 90's but lately I haven't been that impressed. But I will run to the dance floor when they play dance music like the Black Eye Peas, Usher, etc. And I have to say that I was in the best shape of my life when I use to fast dance...so I look forward to the fast music coming on so I can get out there and dance!! And work up an awesome glisten (sweat is such a dirty word :( )! I hope you are able to go out with your hubby and dance the night away soon!

Heather.....I went to the Big Texas website and saw that they give free dance lessons on Saturdays, if you are interested check it out! There is also a Big Texas in Spring if that is closer to where you are. The one in Webster is just 10-15 minutes from me. Hope this helps! :biggrin1:

Oh oh .. back in the day I was the 2 step queen lol. This was like in high school though.

Definitely go for a few private lessons. It will so boost your self confidence.

2 step is easy and its one of those dances where its nearly impossible to look like a clutz, thankfully, as I have no rhythm whatsoever lol.

Kathy, I'd love to be able to dance to black eyed peas and the like, but again, have no rhythm so just sit and bob my head lol. Desperately want to learn how to do some of the newer dance stuff to go clubbing once in a while...

:omg: Oh my goodness....Parvathi! Girl if you have the rhythm to 2-step then you can club dance. Everyone does something different, no one is the same. Although I do have the types of friends that love dirty dancing at clubs but then all you have to do is pretend to be making out on the dance floor!!! :( And DH loves it because they are women friends!!! LOL! SO just go out there and own it! Do what makes you feel good and the rest comes naturally. :biggrin1:

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
