Surgery---August 3, 3:45PM Mountainside Hospital, Montclair NJ

Hi. I am 7 days from my surgery, and starting to have emotional ups and downs. My emotions are on edge, and things are really bothering me! Everything is really bugging me. I am headachy and snapping at everyone! I am NOT like this. Could be the lack of food on the pre-op diet----I am probably not taking in enough calories. I am feeling anxiety and sadness over this decision. I keep thinking I am the one person for whom lapbanding will NOT work. Why would anyone elect to do this?

I have a lot of responsibility at home (I am full-time caregiver for my mom) and I am feeling so stressed out this week. I made arrangements for another caregiver but thatis only for a couple of days. My sister will be here too, but she doesn't care for mom and is uncomfortable changing her diapers and washing her etc. I will have to take back over the job on Saturday (Surgery is Wednesday).

I guess the worst part is that I have to be the strong one. the person that doesn't complain or have probems. I know I made this decision and am sticking by it because I need to do this for me and nobody else. I have put myself first and its a new role. After raising 6 kids and being a mother wife and teacher, I made this decision for my own health and welfare.

I really just want to have a huge boo-hoo and get it all out. I can't do this at home though. I will probably go take a walk to the park with the dog and cry it out.

Ah well, I will survive this and appreciate the chance to put words to my emotions.

Hi Linda,

I can certainly identify with your situation. I'm 59 yrs. old and have to be the strong one in the family. Both of my parents are elderly and in poor health and my sister is a basket case.

Hopefully, I'll have a September date to be banded. I've been very patient up until now. Had to follow a year long plan required by my ins. Had a life coach that I had to talk with twice a month and to follow Weight Watchers (not much success there), and my year will be up Aug. 16th. I have an appt. with the surgeon on the 17th, so I'm excited about that.

I know you'll do well. I think you should go somewhere where you can have a good cry. We all need that at some point in our lives. After a good cry, just keep your chin up and remember that "this too shall pass." Surgery will be over for you soon, and you'll start your new life!

Please stay in contact with me. I live in Virginia and will be banded in Richmond.

Take care, Linda. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Peg

I have my surgery scheduled for Aug. 2nd!!! I'm getting it in Seattle at the Swedish Hospital through the Swedish Weight Loss Center. I highly recommend them to anyone- they really take over all the tricky insurance stuff and line-up your appointments for you. All my pre-surgery tests and appointments are done, I've got my work covered for the rest of that week, and I have my pre & post surgery medicines/vitamins all bought and lined-up. I AM SO READY!!!!!!!!!!!

Karyn

Hi, Karyn. All the best to you in your journey to good health. Is there a Dr. Rick Lindquist in this office? I am thinking this is the correct one. I worked with him in the emergency room several years ago. He also helped establish Monarch Medical Weight Loss here in Eugene. He is a wonderful man. Let us know how your surgery goes. Take good care!

Melinda

I got my approval yesterday and am hoping for an August surgery date. I have the Upper GI, Abdominal Ultrasound and Doppler on Monday and then I just have to wait for Doc to get results to schedule. I'm so excited to finally get the approval and know that this IS going to happen. I have been overweight my whole life and have recently started having some health issues, so getting ready to start my new healthy life is an extraordinary feeling!! I'm really glad to have this forum and all of you for the support and encouragement.

My date is Aug. 3. Which is my mom's birthday. I was given a July date but I wanted to enjoy my 2nd wedding anniversary which is Aug 1. and hubby's bday is the 2nd. It feels so far away that I want to switch back but I'll wait!

The GI series was the worse test I took! They give you this white liquid to drink that is thick, pasty, and disgusting. You have to drink it while you have about 50 xrays taken! But its done, over with and well worth it!

Does everyone have to do the upper GI? This is the 1st of heard anyone mention it.

Hi. My Dr. does the upper GI after banding. Most do. Mine opted for an endocopy pre-op testing. Most of these tests are dictated by the insurance companies. I have United Health Care. They have one of the least restrictive of the requirements. I went May 29th for my first appointment and my surgery is schedule for Wednesday.

My surgery time has been changed yet again. Started at 5:30 PM then moved to 3:45 PM now its 7:00 AM. I am up first for the day. I think I like being first on the table rather than the last! Dr. is fresher and ready to go, not rushed or tired. I am ready!!!!

Most surgeons want either the endo or the GI. For some reason my surgeon wanted both. My pcp wouldn't approve both so the surgeon had to write a script for it.

My surgeon requests UGI. I had both this week while in hospital since my discharge was held because I had difficulty with fluids. It was a bad esophagitis. The banding was fine and when the endoscope was passed, it passed through easily to duodenum. I am on medication for the esophagitis and clears. I get full fast. so far taking in 2 ounces the most and I am full.

I am down 13 pounds this week...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
