Hi. New to the board. I have just starting the process. I have tried all sorts of weight-loss plans and as always it tends to come back. In starting the process, I called the bariatric services at the local hospital near me. They are well known for Bariatric surgery. My brother-in-law had the lapband surgery last August and is down 80 pounds. He is off all diabetic medication and is doing well. Before you are seen, an application has to be completed and sent back to the office. Once it is reviewed a RD will call you to set up an education session. I was called a week ago. My qualifier was that I have Hypertension because my BMI was not over 40. This morning I was called to set up an appointment to attend the education session. I will be attending the educational session on Wednesday. There all aspects of the diet and surgery will be discussed. An appointment to meet with the surgeon will be given as well as all the necessary form for pre-op work-up. This was something that I decided on weeks ago if I qualified. Although I am not a big fan of surgery, I am preparing myself for the journey by doing a lot of reading. My brother-in-law is doing great. Postoperatively, he did well and he had a hernia repair along with the lap band placement, so the pain was double but he fared well. I am optimistic about going forth. As long as insurance is not a problem, I am preparing myself for his big step.
One year later....Finally ready for the big day tomorrow [7/26/11]. It has been a long year. I did put on some weight over the course of the year due to my crazy work schedule and late night eating. In April got on the scale and said oh no..I started the weight loss and dropped 25 pounds in two months. Weight flucturates but kept it off. Trying to remain calm and not let emotions take the best of me. Keeping busy so as not to think about it. Only family and one or two good friends know. Many prayers tonight. I am attending a support meeting tonight so to keep calm. God bless.
