Any July 2011 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

hello all!

I have a July 1 surgery date and am so looking forward to it! I've already started my 2 week liquid preop diet, and to allay any fears, I'm four days into it and I geel great!! This is coming from a guy who is over 50, 6'5" and 380 lbs. I'm drinking about 1200 calories a day, and I can tell you honestly that I am NOT hungry... the Protein must be doing the trick. I have about 110-120 grams a day.

Protein powders: ones I use and like: Syntha -6 strawberry... two scoops mixed with milk is thick and like a strawberry shake, 400 calories and 44 grams of protein. Syntrax - Roadside Lemonade and fuzzy navel - these are the only protein powders I've ever had that actually taste good in Water. most make me gag. each has 100 calores and 22 grams of protein. costco carries Premier brand shakes... chocolate tastes great, and it's 160 calories and 30 grams protein.

My doc says "drinkable" Soups are fine, as is no sugar added oatmeal with splenda. The oatmeal will sure fill you up, and help prevent some unpleasant side effects from an all liquid diet. Me, I'm glad my doc requires this. I look at it as getting mentally ready. Yes, the head games have begun, second guessing myself, etc... but if I want to put a quick stop to that I just imagine a picture of me naked, and taped along the bottom are the meds I have to take due to my weight gain. That gets em over it quick.

Counting the days and excited!!!

:o I got my date JULY 11th. I am so excited and also nervous. I have been thinking about this for over 2 years. I was going to have it done last year, but my husband's diabetes got way out of hand. He had lap band on November 23rd,2010. He has done great with the band, and has not gotten sick, slimmed , or stuck one time. He has lost 105 lbs, and no longer takes any medications for diabetes. or high blood pressure.

Now it is my turn. I can't wait. My BMI is 43 , and I need to lose 100 lbs. My goal is to do this by the time I turn 43 next year. My mind is made up and this is the last time I lose 100 lbs.

I am looking forward to my new life and the part that food plays in it. I am looking forward to food not being the focus of my every thougt. I hope that my new obsession, is working my band and exercise.

I am starting a low carb, high Protein diet for then next two weeks, then I start the liquid pre op diet on July 3rd.

Hi Guys, I too am having surgery July 1st (10 days!!! not that I'm counting, LOL) and I am very excited. I started my pre-op diet on friday and so far so good. The first couple days were the worst, and my stomach growls non stop.

My pre op appointments all went good, except I have a mild case of sleep apnea so I'm hoping the pulmonologist clears me before my surgery date. I go see him on the 29th which is cutting it close but my fingers are crossed.

I have been overweight pretty much my whole life, but since I became a single mother my weight has gotten out of hand the past couple years. I can sit here and say that I just want to be skinny and look great in the clothes I buy, but it's not about that. I just want to be healthy and live a long life with my children. It just kills me that I am not able to do alot of things that they want to do because of my weight.

Best of Luck to all us July Banders!! God Bless!

Hey April, I am looking forward to my success as well. I do have reservations, as everyone who is having a majorprocesudre SHOULD have. It is a major deal, not nesseccarily the procedure itself, but the lifestyle change. I love food, I love eating good food, I only hope that my fretting about everything that I eat or want to eat eases up a bit. Here is to our future!!!

Hey, Lisa! I'm having surgery on July 12 and am also on the self-pay fast track! Looking forward to following your success on this journey along with my own. I'm pretty sure LapBand Talk is going to be my new addiction!

Best to you,

April

Hey Songbird, I am being banded on the 7th as well. It is my understanding the folks who get reflux or gag, may not chew their food up enough. This precedure is definately a lifestyle change in that even something little like chewing has to be monitored. Over a period of time, your band will be filled or loosened depending on how you are keeping your food down or how full you feel. If it is too full/tight, you can vomit, but if you know these things before going into this, you can be confident in your decision. Hi Guys.

My surgery is July 7th. I am 58 years old married with 2 grown kids. I am really nervous about the surgery. Not the surgery itself, but the complications that so many people seem to have. Apparently many get horrible reflux and vomit alot. I hope I am not one of those people. I was on this other website and people who were unsuccessful with the band were trying to talk me out of it. I'm really freaked out!

Looks like Carmen and I are the only 7/21 Bandsters so far. Can't wait to get to it. Started a list of sorts today stating why I want the surgery, things that I think I'll enjoy more being at a healthy weight.

My pre-op diet is:

Day 1 and 2 - liquids only.

Day 3 to 12 - stay under 1000 calories. Have 2-3 Protein shakes and a lean quisine-type meal of under 300 calories - just stay under 1000 calories.

Days 13 and 14 - liquids only.

Shauna - I love the charm Bracelet idea. And get thee to Paris !!

I am being banded July 5 and I start my pre-op diet tomorrow! Mine's 3 Protein Shakes - 2 lien cuisine meals or equivalents, and up to 2 cups vegetables each day for next 14 days. My fridge and freezer are stocked and i got my chewable vitamins to start tomorrow as well (may as well start getting used to the vitamins). I fear losing diet pop - i'm going Water or water and crystal light or equivalent from here on out. I'm a huge diet pop drinker - have been for many many years. I'm 37 with a husband and 5 year old son. I was thin and beautiful until college - and i started gaining weight - about 5-10 pound per year since. I'm looking to lose 10 on the pre-op diet and another 130 after that. WE CAN DO IT JULY BANDSTERS UNITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:P

Funny story - was at the doc office and noticed that there was a basket of Unjury (protein drink) samples on the bottom shelf. I waited until the doc left, then stuffed six into my purse. LOL! If I'm shelling out $10K+ to this guy, the least I should get are some free samples. LOL. I mentally promised myself that if I don't like them, I'll sneak them back into the basket on my next visit. ;)

Did you have to do a 6 month diet? If so how long did it take to get your surgery date from your last nutrition class?

I am also scheduled for surgery in July - the 15th - and can hardly wait. I had originally pursued lap band 2 years ago. I was denied by insurance, after jumping through all their hoops, because they felt my obesity-related medical issues - sleep apnea, reflux, etc. - could be treated in ways other than surgery. I had lost 30 lbs. in preparation of surgery back then, felt a lot better physically & psychologically, so didn't appeal the decision. Unfortunately, since then I have managed to maintain the 30 lb weight loss but haven't lost any more. I, too, am in the 33-34 BMI range and have decided that I am going to do self-pay. Life is short and I refuse to go through the rest of it feeling & looking like I do.

Cheers to the journey ahead! :D

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
