Where in Oregon are you? I also live in Oregon. :) And why did you have staples? Is that a normal for the lapro surgery?

Good luck to you!!! Don't feel weird about being scared of being skinny. This is a big change, and it's normal to be scared about such a big change. Hope your surgery goes well.

Good Luck! I'm 2 days post op and the pain isn't too bad. Feels more like sore muscles than anything to me. I haven't had much gas pain, to me it feels more like a burp that got stuck then goes away.

Good luck tomorrow! Everything will go great!

I'm getting my band on June 30...i have so many emotions going on right now that I really don't know how to feel. I'm scared of surgery, scared of failing, scared of being skinny (weird I know), but all in the same breath...i'm sooo excited! I'm having an EGD done this coming Monday and then Wednesday is my pre-op appointment and Thursday I start my one week pre-op diet...which is a light diet until 3 days before and then i begin the clear liquid diet!

I'm scared of being skinny too! It's a little scary being so "out there" when we've been covered up by the fluff for so long! haha That's why I'm being sure to follow up with a therapist as I lose weight, to make sure my head's in the best place it can be. :)

lol...why is that? You think I would be so excited to be skinny because this is what I want!! Yeah, I was thinking I might have to see a therapist too. lol

I'm back home in Oregon working at my own desk today. Went in for my post-op appointment. I have lost 12 pounds total since the surgery (one week ago today). I suspect it is Water weight. I got my staples out, and they have been replaced with steri-strips, and I got the okay to start transitioning to mushies. Woohoo! :D Hope everyone else is doing well!

I'm happy to hear you're doing soooo well!

Got banded yesterday! surgery pain is not so bad the worst pain comes from gas. my shoulder is swollen and really hurts alot. The incisions do not hurt so badly, i feel the most pain where the port is located. I am only able to have 3 or 4 ounces of Clear Liquids at once so hopefully i will start losing some weight soon. Congrats to all those who are getting banded in june ang best of luck.

Scheduled to be banded on the 29th and now that it's officially count down time I am having mixed feelings. I have good days where I stay positive and upbeat then I have bad ones where I feel like I am almost gonna have a panic attack. I have gotten somewhat obsessive about watching youtube videos of lapband fills. To think that a huge needle is going into my stomach freaks me out. I don't think I am scared as much for the surgery as I am for the fills. I think I am going to have to talk to my surgeon about getting anti anxiety pills to get the fills done along with something to numb the area beforehand. Just typing this post is giving me anxiety. But I do know this is something I need to have done as I feel so unhealthy being at my weight. I have tried diets after diets to only fail. I need something that is going to hold me accountable. Something that will help me to restrict my intake of food. My biggest issue with me being fat is that I can't control my portions, so this will be the tool that I hope will work.

Shannon - you'll be okay! :) Just take one major leap at a time! First, surgery!!! We're both getting banded on Wednesday, and that's a big hurdle! Once the band is in place, and you're recovering from surgery - THEN you can worry about fills. :) I officially forbid you from worrying about fills yet. ;)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
