To Fill or Not

Recommended Posts

 I had several cc taken out last april 2010. gained back up several lbs. got back on track with my eating as of jan. 15 2011. i did the 5 day pouch test. back tight again, but am able to eat a good salad and 1 sm piece of fish. last night. today tried to eat an egg and cheese omlet at ihop with parents around lunch and could not get down but 4 bites. just wondering should i try to keep on with out a fill or should i try to go maybe get 1 cc. Lost from 249 down to 238. Gained 4 lbs 1 day (1 cup cashes=water weight I guess did not cheat except the nuts). Now back down to 240 been here at 240 since monday morning. i am still eating right. just thought since I had ate prob 2500 calories a day and now down to 1000-1200. I just assumed I would at least have lost them 2 last lbs. Should I fill

Some people hvae problem with eggs. Besides that fact I don't think you need a fill if you are having trouble eating solids.

I feel that because I can eat a lot I must need a fill...but I then remember how I get stuck or slime and have trouble with some foods almost ever day and I figure then I dont need a fill after all.

So I figure if I get stuck and slime every day then I need to not get a fill but to rest my band.

And yes the nuts even though they are a good choice as far as Snacks go they make you retain Water.

My surgeon and I had a talk during my last fill (my first fill actually). He was happy to give me the fill but told me "There will have to come a time that you will have to not be able to depend on fills." Another words what he was saying that I will have to learn and make a lifestyle change where I am not tempted to over eat and not depend on the band. It's hard to do... and I am certainly not there yet. If I am tight where I can't eat... that's not good,. no fill and overeating that's not good either. So sometimes it's just mindset and willpower telling myself that I have taken in the calories need to substain my obdy physically for that day and anything else is head hunger. Not the best answer for you, I know!

I haven't been able to eat eggs for three years! :( I'd say if you are doing relatively well with all of your other solids that you don't need a fill. Just keep an eye on it and maybe make that decision a little later on.

:) I am down another lb. 237 and am so excited. That is 12 since Jan. 15, 2011. I have decided that I will go get 1 cc (I had 4 taken out last April). I will go next Friday. I feel like the one will help me. I know I do not ever want to be sick like I was last year. I was desperate going into my 3 rd year anniv. I paid for that. No more speedy go fast marathon. I am choosing to go steady. I have also learned to stay away from high sodium stuff. Weight gain galore. Bought the biggest loser juliann Protein choc. powder, had it last night. Very good. I did 1 cup ice, 1 scoop Protein Powder, 1 tbsp p.nut butter, 1/2 cup 1% milk and 1/2 cup Water. I am proud of my self.

I read some of the posts on LBT and read where people have lost 50+ pounds in 2 - 3 months and I'm wondering how do you do that. I am going at a slower pace which is within my doctor's expectations of 1 - 2 pounds per week. I would rather lose it slow and steady rather than fast and end up losing my hair or have other complications. For me a pound lost is one more pound than I have lost in many years.

I wish I had that answer. I have local friends (4) that all lost their weight from 75 to 125 in 1 year. Me I am going to be a 4 yr bandster in june. I have asked them mannnnyyy times what are you eating, what are you doing some say walking, some say not eating much. Heck that does not help me. Be my friend. I see they do not want to give away their secret, and that is okay. on here i feel like we are all here to help each other. I want to encourage others, i want to see everyone succeed. I am gonna post my food just so i can go back and check myself. i did lose over 50 the fist year. by doing what i am doing now. i posted on here what i have been eating. if you need anymore help i am willing to help as much as i can. and i agree, i chose to go slower but got lazy my 2nd year, last year after my unfill i went back to all slide down junk food, high calorie stuff. not now. i do not want it no more. my biggest thing is head hunger. where i am really not hungry just so use to eating whenever. so now i am choosing Protein drinks and Water. i just have to do this one hour at a time one day at a time. and say no it just is not worth it.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
