Rabbits and Turtles United New Year Challenge

Hello Fellow Bandsters,,

Whatever catagory you feel you fit in, you are not alone. We are all on this WL Journey together!!!!

I wanted to start thinking about next week. The new year has always aspired me to make commitments and try to do new and different thing. So I bring this to you all to help develop another challenge with a combination of other challenges so loved by all.

NSV and Weight in one post.

First Start Date, January 3,2006

End Date March 1,2006

Challenge is to list on the same post 1 new NSV (non scale victory) each week along with your WL stats. It would be helpful to date your entries.

The reasoning is to keep all your stas and NSV in one place for you and others who are cheering you on to follow. By going back and editing/updating your orginal post we would be back to basic each log in. Rememberng the whys and our accomplishments each week. Something I know I forget sometimes. By the end of the challenge we should have a great idea of how it's going and a quick reference to where we need to be.

If you are not yet banded - please join in and tracking your goals and accomplishments as well.

This WL thing is truly a team sport and together we can acomplish more!

ROAR!!!!

Any thoughts, changes suggestions??? We have a week or so to refine it.

COuld one of the moderators please sticky this?

Debby

I have to admit, I only exercised one day last week. Bad Christi! DH even had something to say about it, which made it even worse. I could have slapped him, but instead, I resolved to get back on track this week.

NSV: I found a belt that I bought many many years ago that before banding I had a gap of about 6" where it would not fit around my waist. I put it on just for the hell of it, and not only was I able to get it on, I got it into the 3rd hole!

-9 lbs. I loved this challenge!! It helped me realize that I WAS losing slowly and steadily, even when I 'felt' like I was at a standstill. My goal was to lose 10 but I feel very successful. I can really see the differences showing in my body with the weight I have lost.

NSV There are so many. I have lost almost 6 inches off my waist and 3 off my hips. I am in all new pants, 16-18. I am feeling really good.

Edit 2/28/06 I made my goal!!! I hit 204 this morning! -10lbs

1/4/06

Weight = 236

NSV: I bought a size 18/20 belt to hold up my too loose size 22 pants.

1/9/06

NSV: I was able to fit into a misses size 20 pants at Old Navy.

1/16/06

Weight = 229 (-5)

NSV(s): 1) My mother-in-law came to visit this past weekend and called me a "skinny minnie!" 2) I can now fit comfortably (with room to spare) in those plastic, stackable patio chairs.

1/23/06

Weight = 228 (-1)

NSV: I FINALLY had to break down and buy new size 20 clothing because I was tired of my old clothes falling off of me.

1/30/06

Weight = 226 (-2)

NSV: I had to move the seat in my vehicle closer to the steering wheel because my butt isn't so big anymore.

2/6/06

Weight = 221 (-5)

NSV(s): 1) Our female bowling league partner told me this past Tuesday that I had a nice butt. :eek: P.S. She wasn't hitting on me. LOL

2) I fit into and purchased a pair of size 18 shorts.

SV: 4 more pounds and I'm halfway to my goal!! :biggrin1:

2/13/06

Weight = 220 (-1)

NSV: I don't really have one this week. Hopefully I'll make up for it with 2 next week.

2/20/06

Weight = 220 (no change)

NSV(s): 1) On the plane to and from Vegas last week, I didn't have to struggle to secure my seatbelt, but rather had 6-8 inches of slack. 2) My hips didn't spread into the seats next to me causing the armrests to lift up. 3) My husband said he saw several men in Vegas checking out my ass!! LOL :P

2/27/06

Weight = 216 (-4)

I met my personal goal early, on the 23rd.

NSV: I fit into (and purchased, of course) a pair of size 16 jeans today!

This is directly from Debby's first post for the challenge:

Oops, didn't realize this ended last Wed. Well, either way I only lost 10 lbs during the challenge; 240->230. My goal was 16 lbs I believe. My problem was giving up exercise. But I am re-dedicating myself starting this week and will exercise 3+ times a week now. I just do so much better when I do -- more energy, eat better, drink more fluids and lose faster.

I guess I need to sniff out where the new challenge is... there is one, isn't there??

Sort of, yes. It's called the Gone For Good Club. Come join us!! :eek:

OK, Here is a restatement of my goals from the beginning of the challenge:

Starting weight - 256

(what I weighed when this challenge was issued, and I accepted -)

Goal Weight on March 1, 2006 - 244 pounds

= 12 pounds down or 1.5 pounds for almost 8 weeks - (Barely enough to keep me from being disqualified as a bunny, and just enough to avoid qualification to join the turtle club)

Result:

245 current weight = 2 pounds short of goal, or 11 pounds down! With the little ups and downs that happen every day, one easily loses site of the fact that given time, the weight keeps dropping. It requires just peacefully dealing with the stress of watching what I allow to go in my mouth, while waiting for time to pass. Then, when you look back in retrospect, you see the scale moved, and reaffirm that the band is a great friend.

When I did the math to figure out the goal at the beginning of this challenge, it was hard to imagine, let alone put down a committment. Why? Well, we all know - people with weight problems, for most of their life, have never even dreamed, and almost never achieved, any real weight loss. Just a few months ago when this challenge began, in the back of my mind, I was thinking "Ya, right" - lose that much weight in a quarter. But, oh well, I'll play along."

It's amazing to see the weight actually continue to come off, even though I fall down on my "diet" all the time. I can always get back on, exercise more, and watch it. And the band continues to reward any/all good behavior.

I am sure an 11 pound loss, reported a week after the challenge ended is not going to be any barn-burning, prize winning loss, but nonetheless, in my own life, it's been another great step.

Biggest NSV - I have started skiing so much lately, that I finally bought a half season pass at my favorite ski resort. I have been averaging 2 ski days a week, and I really don't tire out after skiing hard all day. I just want more.

Thanks for a great support community. You all help.

Life rocks!

Best, Brad
