dmccarre...

Sometimes if u drink too fast or take too much at a time it will make u nauseous. I am 2days out and so far no nausea, knocking on wood. Incisions don't feel all that great. I am finding it hard to follow the post op diet... I mean I can't eat everything they suggest.

Hope u have a fast recovery.

I am scheduled for October 26th. Go for my pre-op on the 9th and I must say I am getting a little nervous. Is this normal?

It is totally normal to be nervous/scared/freaked out etc... I was but now that the surgery is over I feel so much better. Hang in there and know that you're not alone. We're all in this together--

Good morning everyone, could anyone explain to me how to add the ticker tape to my postings. I'm tech challenged but they look so cute.

Hope everyone who is banded is healing nicely. 4 more sleeps for me. I don't seem to be losing anymore on my pre-op so that's a little scary. I'm just going to have faith:crying:.

Just go to TickerFactory.com and pick out what you want. When you get the code (html code) you can put it in your signature area.

My pre-op is set for Oct.14 and my surgery has been scheduled for Oct. 25 - my 7 year wedding anniversary. There are literally no words for the excitment/nervousness/anxiety that I feel

I have been on the search for the high protein/low carb shakes/powders so that I can begin my Optifast diet next week. Any suggestions are welcomed - since I am super new to all of this, and I look forward to getting to know the October '10 Bandsters

Congrats on getting your band date! I was banded on Oct. 5 and have a week on liquids before I get to the puree stage. I have been enjoying Isopure Liquid Protein, Alpine Punch - 20 oz with 40 mg Protein. Pro-Cell protein supplement was also recommended to me but I have it on order so haven't used it yet. Fantastic blog that I follow - Eggface -

theworldaccordingtoeggface

has all kinds of recipes and recommendations. I bought Max Protein in chocolate and vanilla on her site at a discount. The October 10 Bandsters and Outrageous Octobers are a wonderful group of people. Welcome!

Today is Day 2 post op. The surgery went well but I am sore in the stomach area. Of course that makes sense lol. Sleepng in reclyner. Getting up and down is the hardest for me. I try not to use stomach muscles to get up and down but cant' help it and ouchie lol. I got stuck in the bed a little while ago, so back to the reclyner. I so much wanted to get in the real bed. Maybe a couple more reclyner nights.

I'm not hungry. I am sipping Protein Shakes and Water of course. And to make the nausa med taste better after crushing, I'm mixing with sugar free punch, it helps it not taste like poison

So far no gas pain. I am taking a chewable gas x every few hours. I'm crushing it and mixing with the same punch. That's good since the stomach pain is quite enough. The meds are good though

Good luck all

Well I am now officially banded as of 10/7. Im on day 3 and I still have gas pains in the chest and bad pain where my Dr put the port. He put the port not really on top of my belly button, but more like 6-7" above it on my left side.

I havent had any problems getting down liquids at all. The 40oz Isopure punch are great to sip on throughout the night. And the Gas-X strips are a huge help.

Luckily Im able to sleep on one side. Its just getting to that spot without straining my stomach muscles is the challenge.

I just got banded on Thursday, and let me just say..... it's not what i expected. I'm not in that much pain, and its more of a gas pain then anything. I have two incisions, one in the belly button, the other is right below my clevage line. i dont know where my port is though. Good luck to everyone who is getting banded today!!

well I am post-op day 4 and it has not been a blast..lol Where I am a big guy they were able to use the smaller band on me which saves me a surgery.. yea the down size is I have a ton of restriction. I went in to have the couple of cc's taken out of my band due to being dehydrated and they were unable to access my port.. bummer. They wanted me to get admitted to the hospital but since I am a Nurse there would be none of that..lol So I go on monday to the hospital so they can access my Port under Fluro (x-ray). The up side is I am down 11 pounds since surgery.. Even with everything that is going on I DO NOT regret this one bit.. Not every time will be perfect but It will be an adventure.. October Bandsters we will get through this together... Keep the the stories and if You are nervous remember You can do this..

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
