Recommended Posts

Thanks for the kind words guys. I really appreciate it. I was better today, not that hungry at all. Tomorrow is the day!! I have to be there by 11:30 and my surgery is at 12:30. If all goes as planned, they said I could go home around 2:30, so I will be praying for that. I will let you guys know how it goes.

Count me in...I received my date today: 10-15-10. I start my surgeon's 14 day liquid diet in the morning. I am both excited and nervous.

Anyone else in Houston?

XOXO

I am also an October Bandster. My surgery date is 10-26. My surgeon is only requiring one week of preop diet, consisting of a Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch, and a low carb, low fat dinner like chicken and vegetables, and then a one day clear diet the day before surgery. Everyone always has amazing preop weight losses, though, so I am planning to start my preop diet sooner. I also started exercising a bit in preparation. I am scared of the surgery - I haven't had surgery since I got my tonsils out when I was little, and I don't remember a thing about that. I just figure, the fitter I am before surgery, the better it will go. I am also a little worried about the preop testing - I am not having any bloodwork done until the morning of surgery - what if they discover something that causes it to be cancelled or delayed! I would rather have it done a couple of days before.

Well I got my date for surgery - the 27th of October. After waiting 2 yrs on the public waiting list I got the call on September 16th for my pre admission clinic on the 27th and was so surprised when they booked me in for a month later.

I'm a little scared, but mainly about the Optifast diet which I need to do for 2 weeks prior, but I will just have to stick to it.

I was surprised to see that some people are in and out on the same day???? They are planning on keeping me in over night and maybe a second night if I'm in pain. I want to come home to the kids asap.

Well wish me luck

Who knew... I could survive on 2 shakes, 1 bar, and 2 cups of veggies per day for 9 days!!!! I must admit tonight I really want to eat but at this point, I'm 1/2 way tomorrow, I think I need to prove to myself I can do it. My surgery is on the 12th and I can't wait to get some help, also pudding and yogurt sound mighty good to me right now. So far I'm down 10 lbs preop with 11 days to go.

Good luck to everyone having their surgeries starting tomorrow. Our treat this Halloween will be a new start.

I have the same feelings as Esorami, my Oct 6th band bud,! I panic about failing and not being able to get to where I want to be. But I push that feeling out as best as I can and try to stay positive. Now, I'm just a bit nervous about the surgery itself, not because of the pain but I really HATE hospitals and all things related. lol

I just realized that I haven't even thought about what to wear coming home from surgery! Someone posted to wear loose clothing. Like what? I don't want to wear a nightgown, all my pants will most likely irritate the incisions. What's everyone else wearing? Also, I have an hour drive home.

Esorami: Im going to wear some baggy sweat pants and a t-shirt. I've also been told to take a pillow to put across your tummy for the ride home... it will help support the stitches and make the ride easier.

October 4 baby!~:smile2:

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
