Looking for September 2010 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Is anyone else having to give themselves Lovenox (blood thinner) injections? That stuff burns like liquid fire, not to mention that I have UGLY bruises all over my belly from giving the shots to myself. I look like my hubby just beat the fire out of me! LOL Oh well, I guess its better to be bruised for a few weeks than to have problems with blood clots. Also, is anyone having trouble drinking all they are supposed to? I feel like I can't get in all the Fluid that I'm supposed to. My band has no saline in it as of yet, no fills until 6 weeks post op...but I still can't drink all that I'm supposed to. Maybe its just me?!?!

My doctor does not have a pre-op diet either, but i have started Protein Shakes and am going to do 'no carbs' til surgery. I have used all of your diet options to help me figure out what will work for me. My biggest fear is my diet coke addiction which i have to ditch this week, i will try to switch to iced tea and water... i sure will miss it!

If you drink magnesium citrate (poo poo juice) it will be out.

I would wait until the afternoon before your surgery and then plan on sticking around the bathroom for about 6 hours. That will keep your mind off food.

pooky,

I'm having a hard time getting all of the fluids in as well. By the time I get all 3 shakes in at meal times, I can hardly get other things down. I'm making it slowly but surely. I don't think I'm getting dehydrated but it is slow going!

Hi Cathy- " You know Brian if you keep talking like this you will have every single lady on this thread contacting you. " Thanks for the complement but I am not actually looking for a date.I am just like everyone else here - just trying to get better / healthier. I am glad to hear you are happily married with a wonderful daughter. You are very fortunate. It is interesting you said your husband is 25 years your senior. My friend is 14 years older then me ! Age is just a number.

You said you can drink easily and haven't eaten yet... BUT how is the hunger. Are you hungry or do you sometimes feel hunger?

I am just starting my liquid diet before my surgery on Wednesday and BOY DOES IT SUCK !!!!! :)

Here's to a Better Life !

-Lillyegg: Hi ! My dinner went well / she is supportive. I only wish things were different. Oh well such is life.

I hope everyone is having a relaxing Sunday.

Pooky, I too can not get all my liquids in. I have tried to sip on Water all day today and my stomach has not taken it very well. I think I will stick to eating, well drinking, only what I can. It worked for me the first few days.

Grace, are you already drinking Protein shakes? How are you doing with them? I am still on all Clear Liquids. Not completely bored with them, but getting there.

My stomach is rumbling and grumbling and I am on Clear Liquids until Friday and then I can add two Protein Shakes for another week. Then I can start w/mushies--yogurt and creamed Soups fall in this week.

I will be going back to work on Tuesday and the only thing I am worried about is wearing a bra all day. I have only been able to stand it for a little while.

glitteryvampiregirl -- Hi Catherine, congratulations on getting your approval and surgery date. Waiting for the approval was not bad because I really felt that I met all the requirements but waiting for a surgery date about drove me crazy and everyone else on this thread. Glad to have you in our group.

Brian-LA -- Exactly - Age is just a number.

I'm not really hungry like I was before the surgery, it's very manageable. I do drink tea all day long, so when I feel that I am getting hungry, I just drink more. I quickly forget about my hunger at that point which holds me for another few hours. I find it very interesting that so many others are having trouble getting their fluids down. I'm hoping that once the swelling in their belly goes down, they too will be able to drink more at one time otherwise I'll start worrying that my band came undone. I go for my first fill Wednesday and I think I am more nervous about that than the surgery because I'll be awake for this and I hate needles.

How long do you have to be on liquids after the surgery?

pooky032281 -- No daily shots for me. Thank god.

maxi2010 -- Congratulations on your overturned denial and getting your surgery date.

jlr58 -- Sounds like having some imodium AD on hand might be a good thought. My surgery was at 8am and I had left the hospital by noon.

gracerev -- I discovered quite by accident that I could swallow more than I was expecting to be able too. I catch myself with a mouthful of tea before I know it, it's down. So far, I have had to problem so now I don't even think about it. Drink like I did before the surgery. Come Wednesday when I get my first fill, things may be different.

***************************

Today I was back to 100%. I watched this show on TV called hoarders which motivated me to cleaned house like never before. Since my husband left a few days ago to visit his mother, so I really took the challenge on, even moving furniture from one room to another. Absolutely no pain at all. Healing from surgery was very quick.

Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend.

Cathy

It's been 10 long years! Here is my VSG weight loss surgiversary update..

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
