What is your goal weight for your height?

Recommended Posts

I am 5'7 and 32 years old. I would like to be 175. That is what I weighed in high school and before I had my first child. I remember thinking I was cute but not "hot" at that weight, so I will re-evaluate when I get close to that weight an see if I want to go any lower.

[quot]One factor that nobody has mentioned is age. I'm not sure if it's a myth or not but I'm under the impression that you should factor in a few more pounds as you get older. Nope, not me. Metabolic changes associated with age can be counteracted by exercise.

When extra is factored in for age, it assumes continued inactivity.

I'm 5'3 shooting for 125, maybe 120. Only time will tell :tongue2:

I'm 5'8" and I was around 375 when I originally went in for a consultation at the bariatric center (400 lbs when I got married and got pregnant). I didn't want to set myself up for failure, so I originally thought I'd like to go for what the literature says is average for LapBanders: losing 70% of excess body weight after 3 or so years. That would be about 220 or so. (I think maybe I weighed that when I was 13?) Now I think I would be happy under 200. I think I'll keep revising my goals as a meet them.

I am 5'4 and am 31, my goal weight is 170. I wanted to stay realistic when I picked my goal weight. I would LOVE to get below that, but, if I hit 170 and then that's it, I would be happy as a clam! :tongue2: I have a large frame, so I'm never going to be petite. My DREAM weight is 140. When I was in the Air Force I weighted 140 and my bmi was 22.

I'm 5'6" and I'd be ecstatic if I can get down to around 170...and my surgeon feels this goal is very realistic...know it sounds high, but it seems obtainable and I'm sure I'll lower it...right now I'll take just about anything less than I am now

I'm 5'5", and my doctor's goal for me is 156- which is a BMI of 26. I decided that I personally want to get to at least a BMI of 25 (top of healthy range). That's 150- but my super-secret stealth goal is 140!

I am 5feet 2 or 3 inches depends who measures me and I will be happy if I can reach 195pounds. I dont know if I can lose more than that or not with the slow slow slow weight loss I am having.

I'm 5ft 1inch and I would like to get to 120, but 130 would be fine since I'm 38 and the mother of 2.

I'm 5'6 and my goal weight is 150. It was 160 until I got there and really wanted to get into the healthy range and not even be considered overweight for the first time in 25 years. Almost there.

I'm 5'3 and my goal is around 130. I weighed 130 prior to having kids and I thought I looked great.

My doctors goal weight for me is around 115. I weighed 115 when I was a senior in high school - at this point I just dont see how that is going to be possible.

I am 5'7. I want to be about 135, what I was when I got married, but the nutritionist said 170 is more like it. I dont' know if that is the right number for me, so I figure I will just be happy when I am under 200 and then determine my stopping point when I LOOK good. I don't want to lose so much I look unhealthy, but I want to lose enough to be healthy.....

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
