I have sort of, kind of, theoretically thought about Lap Band surgery for several years, but only seriously became interested in it after my daughter was born in 2008. I decided I wanted to be a good role model for her and be able to do the things with her that would be difficult to do at nearly 400 lbs. I started looking into it seriously in early 2009 and researched options/surgeons in my area and decided on the Center for Bariatric Surgery at Genesis Health in Davenport, IA. I had my initial appointments in March 2009 and applied for pre-authorization in May. My first request was denied in June 2009, but I appealed in October and was approved on appeal. My surgery is scheduled for Nov. 23, 2009. I kind of fell off the wagon after my denial, so now I need to refocus and prepare myself physically and mentally for this life change.
