Spring into March 2010 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi out there. I am scheduled for March 2 and hope I don't chicken out like I did last year. I had a Jan '09 date but stopped during the clearance phase. But I have to do this. It is hard wrapping my head around the pre-op diet that I have to start in the next day or so. I have my pre-op testing tomorrow morning and then go shopping for Protein Shakes. blech.

Welcome!!! I am so jealous over your March 2 date. I feel like my date of March 25 is so far away. I understand the thoughts of backing out. I have been over thinking everything the last few days but still keep coming back to the fact that I have to do this. I need to be healthy and want to see my kids grow up. Plus they deserve a mommy that can run around and play with them instead of lying around all the time. I need to be a better example for them. It will be fine and we are all here to help one another. Once again welcome!

I feel like Im in limbo...just waiting around doing nothing. Im ready...but have to wait a month. Not happy! Im ready. I know another month wont kill me however.....

I know what you mean. I am already tired of waiting and I have only had my date since last Wednesday. Find things to make the time go fast. Work keeps me busy and my three kids so I am sure the time will fly but right now it seems way to far away.

So cool that you are being banded on St. Patty's Day  I begin my pre-op diet tomorrow morning and I'm a bit nervous, but really want to see all of this through to the end. I have done a lot of preparing and hopefully it will pay off. Just stopping drinking soda about 2 weeks ago now, I've lost 6.6 pounds and I imagine that was Water weight due to retention because of all the sodium in pop, and probably a little less calorie intake. I can't even imagine what I'll lose in 3 weeks of the pre-op diet, it should get my weight loss into full swing, that way when I get the band it will just keep on coming off!!

Anyways, congrats on your date and I look forward to keeping in touch with all of you March bandsters

Hello fellow Kansan. How great that you lost over 6 pounds in 2 weeks. I am about to kick the pop habit next week. I have cut it down a bit in the last couple of months though. Who is doing your surgery? And sorry I just have to....GO K-STATE!!!! LOL

Greetings all,

So a small victory for me this weekend.....my husband I were at Target and they were stocking the Easter stuff, and the baskets and candy. Well I walked right past the Peeps and did not even grab any for my cart. For me that is such a huge huge victory!!! Peeps are my weekness, I so love those marshmallow confections!!!! Anyway, everyone have a wonderful Wednesday!!

Monica

Cadbury eggs are my weakness! That yummy creamy goodness covered in chocolate....yeah, those are the ones!

None for me this year, no birthday cake or icecream or green beer for me this year either!

oh no...im sorry to hear this...I was sad to when my surgery was bumped from Feb 8th to March 15th because of sleep apnea...but your right....that wasnt nice....but maybe its an emergency? I always think that what ever the date...given instead for some reason...is somehow meant to be...and maybe that will be revealed to us at some time and then maybe it wont...but whatever the date...it will happen and we will keep you company until then....anxiously waiting together!!!

They said that he is out of town that week and they didnt realize that until monday.. They could have done march 6 which would have been a week earlier but i cant do it cause our work schedule is already out for that week and it would have been a pain in my butt to try to get it off.. Maybe March 19 is meant to be...

I root for K-State as well, but not when they are playing KU  I remember being a kid and watching KU play KSU and at that time I was a huge Rolondo Blackman fan and they lost in the finals to KU. Our family was divided 3 on 3...now we all pretty much root for KU, but KSU is still in our hearts!!!

I live in southeast Kansas now, but was born and raised in Topeka and actually graduated from Holton!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
