Hi, my name is Cindy and I am a scale whore...wait...this IS support group, right?

Hi, I'm Helen and I'm a scale whore too!

Every morning, that's how I start my day. Now that I'm several months out I know the general trends, and am just aware if the numbers go too far in either direction. I don't think I could stick to once a week, at least not now.

maybe a 12 step program is in order.

I'm laughing at all the posts here! I am not alone and will soon be joining the "weighaholics" 12-step program! I'm a little over a year from my surgery date and I have to say that I weigh myself at least 4-5 times a week (always in the morning and ALWAYS naked!). Yes, our weight fluctuates with body fluids and other anatomical changes, but we weight what we weigh -right? I've had some rough spots over the last year where my weight plateaued for weeks at a time, but the blessing is it has steadily gone down once I get past a certain metabolic weight point. So... weigh once a day, once a week or once a month - it's all good IF this procedure works and we are committed to our new life style and eating habits.

Best of luck to you all! This whole weight loss thing is a bitch - but very worthwhile! I feel fantastic!

i have to say reading all these i can relate to most of them,i had my surgery on the 27th nov. i keep my scales under my bed and every morning i go pee and undress and on i go, if i go up a pound or so i beat me self up big time and then when i go down i shout for glory my hubby laughs at me every morning, he keeps threatning to throw them out so i cant go on every morning, but he wont cos he understands what im going through. if i stay at one weight for more than 3 days i panic thinking something wrong and then the next day i loose something and oh ok its all ok again. i really wish i had the will power to stay off them for a week at a time but i cant.

Hi, my name is Lisa and I'm also a scale whore! Around the holidays I had my daughter take the scale away from me for 2 weeks because of the fact that it was driving me crazy. Just like any other addiction, once I got back on it a few times I was back to my old habits of weighing myself several times throughout the day for any reason I can think of. Just like many others have stated here, I'll weigh first thing in the morning and then use the bathroom and weigh myself again. For some reason the darn number actually goes UP a couple pounds afterwards. For the life of me I can't figure that one out so I'm constantly weighing myself before and after. Does that happen to anyone else? It really can become an obsession. I wish I didn't focus so much on the numbers. Today the scale went from 177.5 to 183 in a matter of minutes. So what number do I use. It really causes a lot of confusion, anxiety and self sabatoge. I hate this.

You need a new scale. It should not fluctuate that much in a matter of minutes. Mine only cost around $20 from Walmart, is digital and is consistent. Sometimes scales just quit working correctly.

scale whore...lol!!! I am a scale whore also weighing myself several times today.

I made an agreement today with my hubby that he would hide the scale from me. Only on Thursday evenings (since my appointments are usually on Friday) can I be reunited with my beloved scale! I miss my baby already. I am so pathetic...lol!

This is so funny because I can totally relate! My mother actually TOOK my scales (yes, I have two, just in case I don't believe the reading from the first digital scale!) to her house and I am only allowed to weigh in there once a week because she thought I was being too obsessive, weighing myself twice a day. Sure, she's probably right, but I have every intention of figuring out where she's keeping them and bringing them back home at my first opportunity!

Am I a scale whore if I only weigh one time almost every morning?

I weigh myself all the time. A friend of mine said her husband took her scale off of her because she was obsessing. LOL.... I don't think it hurts to peek, but remember not to get disappointed if it doesn't move because sometimes it will be a loss in your clothes and not the scale.

Okay, I am a scale whore--I am determined not to weigh myself anymore for the remainder of the week.

Hi all

I weighed myself weekly before I became stuck, not moving, weighing the same:mad:. So I went to every two weeks, so not to get depressed.

Just curious what system or schedules people have to weigh themselves? Like how often? Where? I go each month for a visit to the doc's and also have a scale at work. I just recently got another scale for my house. I don't want to drive myself crazy everyday but the temptation is there always to take a peek.

They suggest you not weigh yourself more than once a month, but to be honest with you. I've had my band for almost 3 years and have been at my goal weight for over a year and not a day has gone by where I haven't weighed myself. I don't think a day has gone by in 30 years where I haven't weighed my self. So I figure, if that's my only obsession...LET IT BE! Anyway....most of the time it's good news and makes me smile.

I too am a scale whore, but I don't care. I weigh myself in the morning after I go to the bathroom- naked of course! I also weigh myself if I feel like snacking due to head hunger. It brings me back into focus. In my opinion it doesn't hurt me and keeps me focused.

Alright, I'll 'weigh in' (pun intended) on this topic. In my actively-losing post-op phase I weighed myself too often.

Once a week is plenty. Anything more than that, you might make yourself crazy even if you're losing. Why do I say that? Sometimes I'd go weeks without losing a single pound - but I was losing inches. Seriously, the scale would NOT move - but I my clothes were still getting looser.

And I care much more about how clothes fit than some magical number.

Seriously folks - I let my doctor watch the scale, but I watched my clothes.

And after hitting goal, going past goal and trying to find some balance in life... I DO NOT own a scale anymore.

I no longer try to let myself get wrapped up in a pound here or there (or even a couple here or there). Now it's different because I've been banded so many years and aren't trying to actively lose (although after the holidays there is always a little less room in my 'skinny girl' jeans but it should even out in a few weeks). But the bottom line is that a working Lap-Band that is well-restricted won't let you down over time. You'll get there even if you have a bad week and that Digital Devil (as I call scales) doesn't show any progress.

But like everything else with LapBands- everyone is individual. So do what works for YOU, just don't drive yourself crazy.

Enjoy your journey and don't get too wrapped up in numbers.

scales lie, clothes rarely do.

I weigh myself every morning after I pee, naked, before I hop in the shower. I saw a show about a woman who became obsessed with her scale and it ended up as an eating disorder because her scale controlled her food intake. I am just doing it to make sure I don't gain too much, although right now I just keep losing. It's easier for me to control a few pounds rather than 5 so I don't wait an entire week!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
