January 15th Bansters??

Recommended Posts

Let's "band" together! :rolleyes2:

I started my pre-op diet today and it's NO FUN! I just have to keep reminding myself that I can do it!!

Who else is on their pre-op??

I have a Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch and a lean cuisine for dinner. I can have a green salad with no dressing or a sugar free popsicle for a snack. I could easily down all of that as ONE meal! I guess that's why I'm in this boat.

I'm also going to start the Couch to 5K program this week. Anyone wanna join me??

Anyone else wanna share their stories??

Hello!!

We have the same surgery date! I started my pre op diet in the 1st so today is my 5th day of this. It sounds like we have pretty similar diets. I can have 3 Protein shakes a day, a lean cusine, unlimited raw veggies and unlimited Water (sugar free popsicles, Jello, broth and the like). I can only have 4oz of fat frree milk which is making the Protein Shakes kinda nasty because I'm making them with Water. Do you have a restriction on milk? How are you making your protien drinks, or are you buying the premade ones??

Good luck!

My surgery is 7:30 a.m. tomorrow, I just got the call from the hospital. I have to be there at 6 a.m., so I'll have to get to sleep early ... as if I'll be able to sleep at all tonight.

HELLO! I'm super excited for us!! It's coming up sooo fast!

I am using the pre-made ones. I didn't know which to choose so I bought Walmart brand in the plastic container and the Special K ones in the plastic container to see what i like better. My doc just said to keep it 225 cal or less. I noticed after I bought Walmart ones that those are 250 but the Special K is only 190 so I will just drink one of each per day. I wanted the pre-made because I think if I made my own I would end up going over the 225.

I was a slacker and was supposed to start on the 2nd but I started on the 4th (yesterday) I am actually surprised that I'm not real hungry. I'm suffering more of the "head hunger" than anything else.

How are you feeling?

I also just bought a Wii Balance Board and several different fitness games. I should be receiving them by mail tomorrow. I'm excited to start a fitness routine as well. From what I've read, that is a HUGE part of your success.

Hi January 15th Bandsters, I started my pre opt diet today for my surgery on the 15th. I am on a high Protein, almost zero carb diet. I kinda wish I was introduced to the liquid diet so it would be a bit easier after the 15th. My BMI is 34 so, that is why this type of diet. I am nervous and at the same time anxious. Any one in Canada having this surgery that date. I am in Canada Good Luck All!

I just wanted to say good luck with your surgery. I was banded on 12/30/09. My preop diet sucked, slim fast, fruit, yougurt, cottage cheese, and a 10 oz can of vegitarian veggie Soup daily....I never want veggie soup again. Now I am on the full liquid phase. It isn't so bad, but I am craving a cheeseburger like a mad woman..LOL! I think that it is all a mind thing (mind over food). I am suppose to go for my 1 week post op tomorrow, but only if the snow stops. The surgery itself isn't so bad. I have had only minor pain. No pain meds for a couple of days now. I look forward to hearing how your journey is going:)

My date is also on the 15th. I met w/ my surgeon today and he told me to start the pre-op diet on friday. Im excited/apprehensive/nervous, etc. My biggest thing is being able to deal w/ the weight loss since I have been large since childhood. IDK...Good luck to everyone next friday! Send me a PM if you have Facebook and want to track progresses together!

The first couple of days were difficult. Expecially since I was a bit of a piggy over the holidays but I won't beat myself up about that because I lost 35 lbs since Sept and I'm sure I've lost since I started this pre op diet but I won't weigh myself until Friday.

I've been exercising a few times a week for a while now and I hope to increase that post surgery. I mostly do the Ellipticle and once a weekish I do weights. I've been thinking about getting a Wii, let me know how it is!

I am so anxious for this!!! What time is your surgery? I'm the last one of the day at 2pm and I'm having it done in Portland Maine.

Hi I'm January 15th also. I wont get the time until the night before. I am on day four of the liquid diet. The first 2 days really sucked. Its not fun at all but getting better. I have to drink shakes and eat veggies ice pops Jello. The veggies are not agreeing with me. Or maybe its the shakes. Anyone else have an upset stomach?

Soon we will be done with the pre diet and start the rest of our lives. I am so excited!

Hi guys! Happy HUMP day! Updates:

My pre-op diet is going well. Not too hungry until nighttime- which is when I was doing my overeating! So my fix to that is- GO TO BED!

I bought a bunch of fun new gear to get me excited about my exercise program. I bought the Shape-Up shoes by Sketchers and will start walking daily in those. I also bought some fun Wii games- I kinda over bought..... hehehe.... I'm gonna try them all out over the next few days and see what's best.

I jumped on the scale this morning- I wanted to wait, but I have ZERO patience. I weighed 224. That would put me down by 6 pounds in only about 2-3 days. I'm sure that's all Water weight. But it's still nice to see. Regadless of Water weight or not, it's always a good feeling to see the scale go DOWN, not UP!

How do you like your Shape-Up shoes? I am on my feet a ton when at work and thought they maybe good for posture.

I am getting the band on January 15th also. I started my pre-op diet on Sunday. It is an all liquid diet. Not too bad so far. I am very nervous about the surgery, but I am trying to stay positive. I am focusing on what will happen after.

Hi Charise! I love the shoes so far. I am not on my feet all day though. I actually wish I was so I could take advantage of them more. I work form home which means I basically wear slippers! :smile2: But I definitely love how great they feel on my feet when I do go out and wear them. I walk with them on my treadmill too. I've been working out a lot lately and my body is so sore- so I'm not sure hoe much of that is from the shoes but they feel great. I recommend them for sure. I got mine on Amazon for $100.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
